| In a team display that was a shambles to pick on one player seems harsh. Owen didn't have a good game along with the vast majority of the squad that took the field today. Saw some effort in the pack apart from that F A.
They say confidance is low so is ability.

I would say Johnstone got in Owens way, as Riley nearly did in the 1st half.

I let the first one go but stop saying the players are throwing games or taking back handers.
That will get you a warning and ban pretty quickly.

| Every single team in Super League (and probably every sports team) will have a number of players who make more than their fair share of errors, but they make up for it with enthusiasm and attitude. We have had a few at Cas down the years. Wayne Pryce for example struggled under the high ball early on and had poor positioning at times BUT he would make up for it by always giving it a go, always looking for work and if a team made a break he would always be the one chasing back. Michael Wainright was another, slow as treacle but always put his body on the line, never had his head down or shoulders slumped. The majority of fans will support a player like that. What they won't do is give their support to a player who not only makes those mistakes but is then lazy, lethargic and jogs round like he has just woken up after a night on the town.
I'm by no means rubbing it in - I wasn't at the game and have yet to see yesterdays highlights - but having read the comments on here I can picture how he played, and the attitude he will have shown which infuriates fans. It is a huge problem which I no longer think can be fixed. This is a player who early on at Cas was watched by Wigan!
I said this back in January, and I don't think anything has changed:
I must have seen Owen play about half of his 121 games for Cas. For me it's simply down to his attitude.
How can a player be so quick and decisive in attack (he is one of the best finishers I have seen at Cas), yet in defence he is so slow and lazy. Far too often you would see him beat a few players on the outside then dive into the corner for a well taken try. Then a few sets later, the ball is kicked through by the opposition and he would stroll after it, let it bounce a few times, then decide to try and sheppard it out allowing his opposite number to score. Or he wouldn't jump for a kick, just let it come down into his arms.
His body language is also awful when it's not going right, shoulders slumped/back turned/head down. That's what annoyed me the most.

| Quote: Willzay "Don't understand how anyone has the audacity to defend Richard Owen. Might not be the root cause but by God he doesn't half help make the problems 10x worse. Apart from last minute try vs Leeds and only looking good in a few games this year (mainly due to other players being so bad) he has easily been one of the poorest signings in SL. Craig Hall and Chris Riley have been worse I suppose.'"
As ever you get it wrong - no one is defending Owens performance yesterday so you can put your big word "audacity" back in the box. He more than any other player helped lose us that game, can't argue he was dreadful.
What sensible posters are trying to point out is that Owen is not the problem just a symptom. He's not even generally the worst player. Getting rid of him will make no difference whatsoever to the teams form. He's certainly lost us no more games than Hall and unlike Smith and Miller he tries however badly to contribute. His body language is shocking, I can't explain that and I wish someone would explain to him how important it is.
With the right coaching Owen could be as good as average maybe more but in this team he's just one of many no hopers.

This is the sort of post that makes you so likeable, loveable even on this board all he's done is offer an opinion which differs to yours yet you feel the need to throw unnecessary insults his way, as you rightly point out a dozen times at least on this thread Owen had a stinker yesterday and did himself no favours with you or his other committee of detractors' who you seem to have made yourself the President of, nobody is making any excuse for his performance yesterday the difference is they don't need a dozen or more posts' to make their point unlike you and also tempering them with a few chosen insults at certain posters while doing so, that's the difference really though most on here only need one post to make their point where as your good self has to labour the point to get yours across, what a sad individual you really are.

| People don't half talk some trash on here.
Owen has been one of the most interested players over the last couple of months. Majority he has played well wherever he has been asked.
Yes he was shocking yesterday and had a bad one but my god get a grip. If Owen is a symptom (I whole heartedly disagree) then what about Riley, smith, kirmond, Miller that have pretty much been the 4 worst players consistently every game. I wouldn't bat an eye at any of those leaving atm.
I don't rant much but one shocker from Owen and his back gets jumped on to the extreme.

Do you mean problem, otherwise you're saying exactly what I said. I suppose a better word might be victim?

| Yeah was a typo meant victim!
I rarely post these days as it is but it's become so boring and predictable with witch hunts like this going to the extreme that's all.

| Cas fans have seen Owen make them same casual mistakes over and over again. Brian smith should have Owen on his first to axe list. He will never learn. He's a pretty average winger, an utterly woeful full back though. Brain dead at times. I'm certain sammut or hall would be better FB options.

Being a cas fan what do you base your certainty that either of the two players' you mention would be a better option than Owen, or why do you even care for that matter! other than you've made it plainly obvious that your not a fan of Owen's.
