| Following the Cowling try that made it 14-6, Mariano, Tony and Morton were the only players left on the field with any genuine first team experience. Mariano hasn't played or trained properly for 3 weeks and it showed. The kid was blowing out of his bottom after half an hour it's a miracle he stayed on as long as he did. Tony, although kicked well, is not a half back and took me back to the world of last season where the lack of halves demonstrated a lack of direction for the whole team. Morton is a winger, if he isn't getting the ball, he can't do much, and although he dropped a bomb late on, I thought the kid did alright. Up until that point we looked comfortable, defended well, and although the game was a pretty dour affair, it was a good run out for the forwards up that hill, and will have been of benefit to some.

| Were we beaten by 'five drives and a kick'?
How bad is the slope? Worse than Feath?

| Overall the game served it's purpose for Richard, he got his main stream players out on the field to get some much needed game time. Thought the Wakefield forwards did well for most part and if anything the side looked to lose a bit of direction with no real grip of the game and losing composure when it was needed most. Batley showed that sticking to a game plan works and really showed that they wanted to keep their run of good performances going, well played Batley. For me the stand out players for Wakefield were Amore, Eliis and Slater who's work rate was outstanding playing the full 80mins.

| From a Batley perspective it was a good run out for us too, despite the fact we kept chopping and changing our team too. Difference was that we kept Ben Black and Paul Mennell on all match which gave us some continuity going forward all match.
great to see a decent following from Wakefield too, up at the Mount. I thought our kicking game in the last 20 minutes was outstanding and kept you pegged back when you could have run amock going downhill.

| Quote: jack in the box "In all fairness if most of them had played the full 80 minutes we would have won easily enough. The damage was done in the last 20 mins when all above (except davey and tony) were removed from the game. Biggest loss being Wood he played very well today.'"
I doubt it Wakefield would have "won easily enough" with the mentioned players based on what I saw today.
The game was a good workout for both sides. Batley where good in defence throughout the 80 minutes but where lacking ideas and had poor ball control when attacking in the first half. In the second half when Moore and Black clicked at half back Batley took control of the game with a good kicking game and ball distribution.
Wakefield looked solid in defence throughout the game and Kyle Wood had a good game at half back. You cannot write a lot into the result of friendlies with both teams experimenting with combinations and rotating players. The Wakefield players and Richard Agar will be glad of a good workout against a team that defended well on what was a heavy(conditions wise) Mount Pleasant pitch.

| Apart from the slope mount pleasant is a nice ground which has improved since last time I went, shows what can be done with old grounds.

So your saying the lads showed no effort today ?
This can only be from someone who has never played because all the players I know, played with or against never go out on the field and put in no effort. I know from time to time the display can be poor (that not totally being the case today) but no effort is never in question.

Must agree with you Snowie, think the team we put out was good enuff to beat Batley. In my opinion the fringe players are not good enuff to step up to superleague standard.May be we are right getting rid of some players we think are no good for superleague, its hard i know, but we must move on and keep building the team with better players than we have.yes i do agree with bringing in young talent, but to be honest, is there realy any out there for us, i hope so.

| The team you put out today WAS good enough to beat Batley, but only in a Championship-esque context, nothing more. Apart from Amor, the experienced SL players that you included would, in terms of ability, only be what I'd regard as 'decent' Championship players. Some promising young kids out there for you today though, the future is looking good for you in the form of Walshaw and Trout etc...
