If that is true then I'd rather we pay off the tax man before making any huge signings. I know we've had a payment plan in place for some time and stuck to it religously but I'd prefer to see the books without a '-' next to HMRC. Any money left after paying him off could then be used to strengthen the team

I completely agree but if you can keep paying a fixed amount and still sign good players to help cement the future then this has got to be good too.

No you'll have one remaining and that's it. You can only have 5 quota and 1 non-fed. The fact that you've already filled the quota would mean you have one non-fed left - earmarked for Stosic.

I believe Fully’s post has it right and to be honest I have no idea how Galea could’ve been fitted it. He wouldn’t have been able to get an exemption and the non-fed trained space (at the time) was potentially occupied. It has been alluded to on here that he will sign up next season instead so perhaps the club didn’t realise the situation and decided to put off the deal for another year.

If Jeffries were to become a UK citizen, which he was looking into before he left in 2007, there may be a chance that he would become exempt (due to his stay in this country and EU passport status) but I’m not sure if it’s possible for a player to make himself retrospectively exempt.
