| Quote steve1g="steve1g"Agreed but being in the middle doesn't allow attackers to gain much momentum, especially if the defensive line speed is good, which along with other players either side in the middle means more support and less space...there's a lot of traffic goes down the middle which is why hookers like houghton make so many tackles...in theory it should make tackling easier...plus he'd be quicker out of the markers to put more pressure on kickers'"
Nope. If you are struggling to tackle in the busy area it causes holes and breaks. It isn't easier.
I agree we need better distribution but Hampshire would just cause the opposite problem to Crowther.

| Hull seem to be approaching this game as a major test. They intend to stick with the same side that played Wire. Hodgson sees it as another bridge to cross and will give him a better insight in to the players ability and endurance.

Play for 60 minutes they should be fine as we can only do 50!

It’s seems pretty simple to most of us at Hull, whilst always respectful of the two back to back challenge cup victories against Wire then Wigan at Wembley, and a couple of near misses of GF appearances, Radders time had come, enter BH and the new coach has almost immediately changed the psyche of the whole organisation.
It’s early days, but players seem to have a new lease of life, a breath of fresh air, we are a long way of being the best in the competition, but the improvement is astonishing,

Hull have made one change to squad they had against Wire for Trinity game, Ligi Sao returns from injury,Jack Brown serving a one match ban. Should be some tired bodies in Hull side last 20 mins.
Problem is Trinity haven't looked good for a full 80 minutes in a match so far, .just hope they don't drop away themselves last twenty, might be in with a chance if we put effort in for full 80 minutes.

| Let's be honest every other club would target Hull after the wire game and a short turn round.
If we haven't got a squad to run Hull ver close and possibly win them maybe the club will need to look at what direction they want to take.

We'll have to agree to disagree but in my book it should be easier to tackle someone running front on at you that's only run 5 yards and is still building up pace than someone who's in full flow after running 15-20 yards out wide and has more room to move in.
I do agree that tired legs create gaps...and Crowther has missed tackles in the middle as has everyone else when fatigue creeps in...but that is where the coaches should be spotting which players are fatigued and ready to be replaced and manage that...it's also why you bring your impact sub on against tired legs...that's the reason I'm putting this suggestion forward as an option to be considered...anything to change the 'same old' that appears to be getting dished up for the 4th or 5th season in a row
Other teams do it so why not us...just makes sense to maximise what you have, especially when you haven't got much to start with

So I get your point. It is easier to tackle someone head on than how you tackle out wide, in the sense that you don't have to chase them. But it hurts more. Tires you out more. And causes a problem if the players outside you have to cover you...... Which is why our wingers get left in no man's land.
Half backs make good Hooker but they have to prepare.
Powell at Wigan started as a 7. But he had to bulk up to make the switch. Didn't happen over night. I think Lowes did too.
When Robbie Paul tried to step in he got battered until he could prepare in the off season. Talks about it in his book.
So Hampshire could make a great Hooker, but he'll need a lot of prep to make it work.

| I think we're not a million miles apart, other examples are Leuluai, Bobby Goulding and McShane at Cas who fills in at 6 or 7 when needs arise...the McShane example probably best illustrates the point I'm clumsily trying to make in that Cas are maximising what they have but we're not.

It also depends on how any said player performs for our club as opposed to then leaving for another one............
