| Brierley will be a work in progress, we should know more in the next few months, today was more about getting him some match fitness i think.

Fair enough but like a lot of people on here like to give Howarth stick, I like to come back with a mid season report and am happy to be proved wrong.

Brierley won't cut it in Super League. Trust me. Simply not good enough.
Miller has the raw makings of a SL half back, weather he will be coached into his full potential is another story. Finn is just what it says on the tin, can win games, can be a bystander.
For us to kick on and be serious top 8'ers we need a Ben Roberts, a player we were linked with but missed out on.
Hopefully Chester has his eyes on someone of the like. We need to break the bank.

So after one win you want us to spend what little (if any) money we have left, and your the one in despair?!

| Break the bank no, spend a good amount yes. It's no good giving our competitors the upper hand when it comes to signings , a quality signing can make all the difference. We need to look at the bigger picture and look to sign key players in key positions. . Widnes got brown to build a team around and the process didn't happen overnight .Warrington new half back pair look like they have played together for years and that was at the expense of shipping a very good s/ h out. It's about having a vision of what player would match in. I REALISE we are not in the position of Warrington but things can not be done on the cheap. Hopefully J K so arrival will relieve M C from talent spotting.

I agree.
It had something to do with go forward of the pack but also seems to be Chester's influence. Hope that continues.

| Does anyone else notice that after a win against a real bogey side for us, and an entertaining game at that, we are really low on people posting.
The usual suspects seem really quiet.
Maybe they are still celebrating but it seems like some are only happy when there is something to moan about.
Anyway, I enjoyed the game, and a lot of players stepped up. Still lots of improvement in the team too.
And when people talk about Giants injuries they still had current internationals in their team and we were missing BJB, Tupou x2, Anderson from our starting line up with England playing injured and Kirmond and Moore first game back after long lay offs.
We just handled the injuries better than Giants did.

| I was only thinking the same. The moaners ain't got nothing to say. Let's hope we can keep it that way.

| England is outstanding every game. Scruton took his try brilliantly, not the best pass but picked up brilliantly. Jowitt has played well every time I've seen him play and that includes making some howlers, he's got great mental strength from what I can see. If he makes a mistake he just dusts himself off and carries on, the defensive play on mcgilvary was first class, gave a great cut out pass for johnstones first try and showed good strength to shrug off a couple of defenders for his try. Johnstone is improving every game in attack and defence, that try was absolutely brilliant, 100m and had to beat 5 men as well. Gibson ruled out early in the game so that makes it even better playing with 16. To a man they all stood up and played for each other. Not a bad player amongst them which is a far cry from some previous outings. Hopefully that should breed some confidence in to the side. Everything looked much more free flowing, was Brian smith restricting them too much and not allowing them to play any rugby?

ours is the same, when we had our only win against HKR the board was very quiet, yet whenever we lose there's lots of traffic, i think it's the nature of the modern day fan, that they prefer us to lose so they can moan rather than be happy we've won!
It's not so much the injuries that are doing for us, but more the disruptions, we haven't been able to select a settled side this season, we get one half back return (Brough) then the other (Ellis) gets injured, so we've had a different half back pair in almost every game, we have used 5 full backs so far and our left edge seems to change every game.

Interesting choice of word you use there, entertaining. Indeed it was, I saw more excitement, desire, passion, enjoyment in 80 minutes than the last 20 odd games put together. One swallow doesn't make a Summer, but the signs are encouraging. I would like to thank Brian Smith for signing England, if it was him who had anything to do with it, because as one of the less heralded signings if you like, he has been phenomenal. Moore was pivotal for me, he is the best of the 3 hookers we have, the whole pack stood up yesterday, which helped Finn and Miller have better games at least, which then of course helped the threequarters do some good stuff. Jowitt was very impressive, and what can you say about Johnstone! One of the best individual tries I've ever seen down there......thanks Chris Chester and the boys for finally putting a smile back on my face.

| I'm more than happy to have been wrong about that result!
It's interesting that the team appear to have played with freedom - and some who have been terrible to date really opened up; it does make you wonder if BS had them playing to a structure that they didn't believe in?
