Quote: TimmySmith "How realistic is it that Tony Smith comes in to help out for the rest of the year? WP worked under him previously didn’t he.'"

I would have thought none, he's only been stood down by us not sacked so I think he won't be allowed another job until his contract expires at the season end

You’ve changed your tune again vastman! I told you at the start he wasn’t the man. WP is a nice guy, he’s a good assistant coach but he’s not a head coach, he’s not an ideas man, he’s not innovative. He’s a man fo follow not lead. You need to get someone in as “head of rugby” to advise him and quick!

The only thing I’m certain of in this mess of a performance yesterday is that Toulouse came out from the changing rooms and out enthused us. They ran harder showed more desire and upped the intensity getting the momentum of the game and holding it for the entire half and we lacked the toughness and mindset to do anything to stop them.

Toulouse wanted it more, for us to roll over and like we did offering such little resistance in such a game was criminal.

I didn’t and still don’t think WP is the man for the job but I also think the players need to take a long hard look in the mirror.

We seem to have a group blaming WP and a group blaming the players, for me as is usually the case the truth is the issues lay between the 2 of them not one or the other in isolation.

There is another reason, events are taking their natural cause and we've run out of lives. As I said on the other thread, we just don't have the backing to compete at this level, 20 odd years of bumbling along the bottom is evidence enough. I'll watch Trinity as long as they are in existence, dropping down a level to something more sustainable does not bother me. Obviously whether the club survive the drop and in what guise is open to debate, but the years of been a cellar dweller isn't much fun, do I really want to be in SL if that's all we've got to look forward to? if by some chance we survive this year we're out next anyway may as well get use to it.

What can be said about Willie is that our style of play has not changed one bit since he arrived.
He had those wins at the start of his stint as coach (as most new coaches probably do) and a few here and there this season BUT it remains that we are clueless in attack and our points conceded over the last three games speaks volumes for our defence. So, he's not coaching attacking ideas into the team, because they don't display any. In fact they are the worst rugby playing team in SL and they play the type of rugby I don't like to watch. Our defence is dreadful.
So, having coached to team to such a high standard let's get controversial with team selection. Croft should not have played - I like a lot more saw enough in Batchelor at centre to know he would have tightened that side up. Bowes should have played, that's not knocking Crowther - he's not a specialist hooker, Bowes is.
That's my rant over but that's how I see things. Sorry Willie -great player-but lacking as a coach so far!

3 great posts there. It’s clearly holistically a shambles. I listen to rugby agent Craig Harrison’s YouTube channel regarding the game and after the Wigan game Craig was talking to Matty Peet regarding the game against us. Peet said along the lines it was a typical Wakefield display of throw everything but the kitchen sink at us for 25 mins then just going to pot regarding our composure and structure. Everyone knows what to expect with us down the years yet nothing ever changes. Brian Smith who’s probably forgot more than Chester and Poching know as a coach was the highest calibre coach we’ve had in my time and look how that went. Sad times.

Quote: Luppylad "So was it dave fault jordan did a shocking pass from acting half to lose possession or corey knocked on when still at 20 4 .think at times people just look for a scapegoat or look at what they think is the obvious.teams go men down all the time but dont capatulate like that.it wasnt tierdness either it was poor attitude and no desire like i said look at halifax v barrow'"

Yep just looking for scapegoats and if they're the best you've got your argument doesn't stand up very well, not sure why you keep bringing up that championship game, totally unrelated in every aspect, I'm in danger here of trying to defend the indefensible arguing the toss with you, the players well most of them got what they deserved, but don't put all the blame on them when in my OPINION the catalyst for this debacle laid literally firmly at the hands of Fifita and then that other numpty which by then the damage was done, on the balance of things would you seriously have expected that shambles if we had started the second half with 13 players?.
As like you there are certain players I'm certain would not get into my team but we don't pick it but have to accept it, and to highlight an individual error by some of the players is wrong when these errors are compounded by initially one players stupid error which ultimately put pressure on a team which until then were doing fine, so blame whatever Carter, Poching the team are doing wrong, yesterday was down to two players actions which as far as I'm concerned has now put us under so much pressure we will probably succumb to it, don't give a toss what their coach said at half time, I suspect it wasn't much different to what he said before the start, the biggest lift they got was Fifitas yellow card, I knew it as I suspect so did a lot of other fans as well.

In regards to the 2 yellow cards. Queensland in game 2 this year had Kafusi binned just before half time with the game neck and neck, I’d say Queensland had the upper hand. Needless to say they got blitzed in the second half after defending like Trojan’s for the first 10/15 mins of the second half. We played with 12 men for 20 mins. So if the worlds elite struggle to do it, how do we cope with double the amount of time with 12 men.

Team selection was wrong. Again. Also, Francis Cummins, hardly a good record from where he has been, but probably cheap.
What happened with DF and RB was criminal but the capitulation was incredible.34 points in 40 minutes.

I personally thought it was silly from Fifita but I have never seen a sin bin directly for holding down like that.

I would have naturally expected it to be upgraded to a penalty but a sin bin even at the time I thought was excessive for what essentially was a bit of messing about.

Hicks really hammered us in the third quarter. A number of six agains on the 4/5th tackles absolutely killed us. Some were justified but some were strangely harsh. The last tackle where Pitts literally put his hand on the players shoulder when playing ball and he wiped the count down was ridiculous and even Pitts was mystified. You literally see that happen 100s of times throughout a game with no action. Someone honestly must have stolen Hick’s half time snack from the refs room.

Before the referee Angel brigade come riding in on their chariot of righteousnous peddling this to their agenda by saying the predictable “your blaming the ref for the loss” etc.

No I am not. We lost an I fully accept that it was our performance and discipline that caused it. I am however amazed constantly by the decisions.

Another one was how when Hicks gave a knock on when Miller stripped it (he infuriates me with high risk plays like this) but it bobbled and was projected forwards off the Toulouse players arm yet not given as a knock on and given as a try. How?

Also, on the last tackle when Bretherton fell to the floor losing his footing and Walker was penalised for a high shot with replays showing none - very slight contact. That was absolutely rediculous and immediately led to the Russel try. Effectively that’s two try’s in my opinion shouldn’t have happened but for incorrect calls.

I'm certainly not a ref basher and I definitely don't think he was cheating......but he focused on us in that 3rd quarter and even 60:40 decisions went against us. It was frustrating me in the Wigan Sts game seeing so many messing at PTB and just carrying on.

Whether you blame the ref or the players, playing without the ball for so long with 12 men just took our energy. It was impossible to defend.
Everyone knows a repeat set can usually lead to a try. I'm sure someone will count them but we must have had to defend 40 + sets.
