| Quote: jonh "Semi was probably one of the early “current style” wingers.
Big athletic and an extra forward lacking that bit of classic finesse.
Lovely bloke, never met a more laid back bloke.
Gone on to live a very fulfilling life after rugby following his strong religious beliefs.'"
I’d agree but I think that the current incarnation of said style do have more skill than Semi. He always looked raw to me and stayed that way but none the less he gave us what we needed at the time.
Don’t remember him scoring that many but then we’ve been spoilt in recent years with TJ and BJB.

| All this talk about the 2004 squad, I've found the Hull fc play off game in youtube. Absolutely incredible pace and endeavour, we can only dream if that right now. I forgot the bumming we got from Kirkpatrick in the first 15, 5-0 penalty count and 11 men on the pitch.

He was very lean and very raw boned.
All knees and elbows and tall.
Awful player to play against.

I just watched it. Thanks for the reminder.
That was a 100 miles an hour from beginning to end.
As you say we were hammered early on by Kirkpatrick, who conveniently forgot about the laying on rule when we were attacking.
Tadulala was outstanding. Made ground for fun, took every high ball and scored a great try TJ would be proud of.
Really surprised me how skillful we were. Not just Solomona but right across the team.
Domic off injured early on but we covered it.
David March was outstanding in defense, passing and running the ball. And goal kicking too without Rooney.
Field at full back deserves a mention. He really surprised me too.
Enjoyable watching.

| Got the 2004 playoff game on DVD and another good one is when we bet Cas 42-10 at Wheldon Rd, Semi bobbed over in that one.

| 2004 was easily my fave SL season.
After a slow start we won our last 8 home games, did the treble over Cas (who also got relegated that year) and
got to the Elimination semi final (which we lost rather cruelly)
We played some sensational rugby and our fitness levels were superb.
Great times.

That was against Wigan wasn’t it. Gareth Ellis just showed what an amazing player he would become, what a career he went on to have. Easily the best second rower the British game has produced in my lifetime.

Yep, there was only 2 turnstiles open and we missed the first try as there were 1000's of Trinity supporters trying to
get in. Closest we have been to a SL Grand Final.

Yes, remember that. Our young kids went through their own entry turnstile (they wouldn't let them in via the 'adult' turnstile), whilst we were queuing for an age outside, worrying where the kids were. I seem to recall that we missed our first try also.

I missed all our points I think. Was is 0-14? and then we went on to 'lose' 18-14.

| Geoff Evans, what a conditioner!
Even if we were losing at half time, I always thought we could turn it round.
Evans then went to Shudds!

I think it's the first time I've watched it back after 17 years, Korky, for all his faults, was immense int that game, not just the kick return. The thing that got me was how well the lesser known players went, Rob Spicer, in particular, who dropped into centre after Domic went off.
I'm not one who bemoans modern standards and getting all nostalgic about the past, but we are currently operating on a good few levels below of where we were in 2004, but that probably applies to the sport as a whole. The sheer drama of that play off game, which was a 3rd v 6th, would not have looked out of place as a semi final or grand final. The games I watch these days, including most play off games, are pretty sterile in comparison.
