This is where the captain comes into his own. I'm sorry to harp back to the 'good old days' but a captain like Derek Turner simply would not stand for lack of effort on the pitch.
I'm not sure that either Kirmo, as good a player as he was for us, or Miller, have the ability to roust the players when times are hard.'"
Very good interview with ex Cas player Brian Lockwood In League Express this week. Where he tells a funny tale about Rocky and his ways of instilling discipline.

Do you mean the ex Wakefield player who also played at Cas?

| I was in the same class as Brian at school and played in the same junior teams as him. Still see him now and again and at one time he was living near to the Newmarket site. I think we had the best years out of him.

| The captain often sets the tone of the squad, probably more so than the coach does.

| I have to say although recruitment has to be about skills of players and building a team, my number 1 requirement for next year is to bring in a good captain.
We may have missed that chance now but certainly has to be a priority for the year after.

I have a memory of him being dropped and playing for Walnut Warriors for a time, and I suspect there is an amusing discipline-related story about that.

| Its a strange topic "Chester out" as I took my level 1 coaching course with his dad. We called a truce on the arm wrestle drill and just went through the motions.

| I believe Westerman will be captain next season but that's just my opinion.

He had the Talbot in Normy for a while, probably mid eighties, we went in after playing 5 a side, I had an Australian Kangaroos shirt on, he turned to me and without a grin said, “toilets are through there, change that f*****g shirt or you won’t get served!”, I sat for five thinking he was joking, he came back, shrugged his shoulders and went back to the tap room. I duly went and changed my shirt, went back and greeted me with a “nice one cock, you’ll always be welcome in my pub”, and true to his word he always made a fuss when we went in again.
He also told many a tale of a coach of Cronulla who was a gangster about the time he was out there.

It has meandered a lot but I'm OK with it. Better conversation now then when doing the Chester out or in thing.

| Interesting to note that when Huby left several disastrous results followed, Catalans away, Cas home, Wigan away. Granted we were poor before that. There was also a dip in form and performance when Horo was “let go” and Pauli punted onto Salford.

| Well unless he walks put we can't change coaches now with 4 games to go. The fact he is still here suggests the club have no intention of letting him go for next year. On balance he probably deserves the chance to go again with a fit squad if we stay up but a disappointing start to 2020 I would expect him gone.

There was also a dip in results after Fifita signed his 3 year contract.
We can read into anything if we want to. Ultimately the players and coaching staff have to rectify what has gone wrong and whatever the reasons why. It might just be that injuries have caught up and too many players have been carrying too many knocks.
