Mathers, very prone to missing the odd tackle or two or ten, wasn't bad for us.

| Love all this talk about clubs getting rid of players! Who is to say that we didn't offer Walton a contract, or that Cas haven't offered Mariano a deal, or not...
Walton may well have been offered terms by us, but maybe was offered better or similar by Bradford with the potential of more game time? I haven't seen a statement that says we released him, but we obviously put a value on all players and if wont sign for that value then we move on.
Frankie may well be the same. Depending on the deal, I would take a risk with him, but the deal has to be incentive based and he may be offered mores security elsewhere. The whole thing is very dynamic and very fluid.
I do wish we were in a position to name signings for next year, but that won't come until season tickets are on sale and we all know why they are not - yet!

I dont disagree with anything that you've put although, I doubt that we out bid Cas for Owen & Tansey.
They appeared surplus to Castlefords requirements and not to be part of Powells plans.
Cas signed McShane from us, which meant that Trinity could sign Moore.
Moore is an excellent player but, there is little doubt that they have had better value from McShane who will have played significantly more minutes than Scott Moore, mainly due to his discipline but, IIRC, Moore came to us with an injury problem as well.
Unfortunately, we have to accept that Trinity have much lower spending power than other clubs and as such we need better "value for money" which leads to us taking "chances" with players that may have issues (either injuries or personal problems).
Sometimes these pay off and other times not.

Absolutely. The point being that we do not know the details of any of these discussions.
We will continue to the type of deal you describe where we can - it's generally good business, but it does mean you don't get first choice.
We are not far off a decent side, in fact we were a decent side for a good portion of the year, but we really need some extra quality to be able to compete next season. Leigh coming up will mix things up, as will a rejuvenated Whinos!

| I agree there djcool.
As it stands that would likely be Salford.

| I liked him when he played for us before. Nice lad too.
If he came back and we got the same player that left us in 2013 then I would be happy to have him back.
I just think he has had too many injuries in past couple of seaons which is a shame really.

| The lad can be very good but he has an issues which has blighted his career. Now I would never call an RL player soft so lets just say he has a low pain threshold.

He's exactly the kind of player we don't need. He's brilliant when things are going well but invisible when they are bad.
No RL is soft despite what some think on here but Frankie is at the lower end of tough.

Very politely put.

| Quote: vastman "Frankie is a superb athlete, a very clever player and he a big unit. Considering all those assets he should have been lining up against Australia last week not looking for a club and out of contract. There has to be more to a player like that than just injuries, you just have to use the old noggin.
I'm afraid I have to agree with you.
I wish I'd been blessed with his ability and attributes because on his day he could be a devastating runner outwide and even could play centre effectively. Described by some as a prop but really a second rower. Released probably by Cas because he has played only a handful of games in his time there so not value for money. Hopefully a club will take a punt on him although I can't imagine he can demand much in terms of a full time contract. Think Kear was a big fan of his.
But Ferguson would be better value for money and hopefully him and Allgood will be announced next week from what CC has said on Radio Yorkshire.

I once got caught in an argument with the six finger mob when I said Ferguson was a better prospect than Westerman which like many things on digital media was taken out of context.
Westerman is another Marioano though considerably better and both for me fail to deliver on what gods given them. Where as the stout and dependable Ferguson continues to give his employers 100% 100% of the time even if that's not as good as Westermans best. For me this is a player who has delivered on his promise and I'd take them all day long over the show ponies who blight SL.
If only you could transplant Fergies ticker into Marianos frame youd have a world beater which is what I was saying about Westerman.
