| Quote: Slugger McBatt "He could have easily said, "here you go, here's the keys, fill your boots", but he insisted on seeing a properly thought-out plan. That might have been because of the money he is owed by the club, but by not handing over power to the first person who shows the slightest bit of interest does suggest that he has the long-term future of the club at heart.
'"
Ladies and gentlemen we have a winner. If MC hands over control of the club to someone else he loses the control over getting his money back as well. He wrote it in this very forum that it was that reason he was taking on the club, that will still be ongoing given the continuing level of outstanding director loans. You can understand that he'd want his cash back but I imagine BS would have preferred those payments to be channelled elsewhere and as such wouldn't put in a repayment agreement in writing. If it was a buyout then i doubt it would have included the director debts that still exist so he would lose all the money instantly. The club owes him his pension pot back and he is within his rights to ask for it back before he moves on, it does though provide a stumbling block to someone who hasn't a pitful of brass to chuck at the club. There is also the fact that Mrs MC also works at the club, would this be likely to continue had BS got control and MC was gone given their 'frosty' relationship? You'd have to say it was doubtful. Does that show he has the club at heart though, or is he looking after his own interests? Or is the truth is its a mixture of the two as they are both mutually beneficial? The club surviving in the top flight means more cash back. That though means the status quo remains regarding investment, something we need desperately. Neither side really comes out of this well to be honest and the club and its supporters suffer as a result. We are stuck in a massive hole and it's all very depressing really.

I think you have hit the nail on the head there. I think MC genuinely does have the interests of the club at heart but quite understandably wants his money back. He presumably loaned it to the club so why should it be any different to any other loan - has to be repaid!
If he didn't have the interests of the club at heart why on earth would he have taken it on initially?
If he can do it by making the club successful first then I'm all for that!

I've a feeling quite a few clubs, including ours, will be closly monitoring how the mergered Hull academy pans out. If that is even moderately successful then i think it will lead to a series of 'regional academies' within 5 years

MC has said many times on Twitter that he would sell for a pound but no one is interested, well BS was but it didn't happen because he didn't have a business plan.
You can't make this up!'"
So is Mick Carter supposed to just hand over the club to someone who
a, can't show a business plan
b, can't confirm the money
[iIn retrospect[/i
c, had about as much sticking power as a second hand post it note
Where would the duty of care be in just offloading control of the club to any Tom, Dick or Harry who said they wanted it?

Well said.
As another poster said, imagine if Smith was given full control, racked up debt, and bogged off to Aus? I applaud Carter for not taking that risk, even if it's to protect his own interests as well as the clubs.

| If I was selling a business why would I expect a business plan from the incoming party. m C said at the end of last season he was unsure of his position, he's also said if the right people came in he would stand aside . I suppose it comes down to the evaluation from the owner and the offer from the buyer. Just how do you value a club .Could the club expect a better offer from someone with as much RL know all. Is the club for sale and would anyone interested be prepared to offer a plan going forward to M C , I doubt it

The reality is that we don't know if thats the full truth it's MC version of events. One of them if not both of them are been economical with the truth. It's hard to form an opinion all you can do is look at either parties motivations and characters then come to a uninformed opinion. Either way the more that comes out the more confused I am.

| I agree with The Avenger's summary; and if MC's interest in making the club successful and sustainable is driven by a motivation to recoup his investment, then good - that's a much healthier motivation than that of say, a fan, who'll do anything for instant success.
This whole thing sounds like a power struggle that's gone sour; and now BS has thrown his teddy out and resorted to sordid internet trolling techniques to put pressure on MC - not at all the strategy one would expect from a serious operator with a reputation to consider, and serious intentions to take over a club that he suddenly appears to care deeply about, despite upping sticks and leaving it in the mire.
