We've gone a long way from Vasty's original post.
Let's leave the Lonely Planet guide to Fev alone for a while.

Quote: TRB "I haven't laboured the point, you have! It was a general comment and the relevance is to our stadium, so why would I comment on other areas? '"

At the risk of falling foul of poptart's general warning, let me just say that a couple of weeks before Xmas you commented on a thread about the state of decay in Bellevue and Agbrigg, you have now reinforced the point in this thread making the same accusations, which suggests to me a labouring of the point. I myself don't have a point to make but but imo think you are wrong in your condemnation of the area just to highlight what you believe is in the best interest of the club to move to NM.
Quote: TRB "The reality is that it doesn't help attract corporate clients in to the facilities, and we need them, just as any other similar sports club does! This also applies to the car parking, in that whilst we are happy with on street parking and walking to the ground, a sponsor, paying perhaps thousands, would deem parking spaces adjacent to the ground as a minimum requirement. This has, and does, cause problems for the club, especially now with the SB car park out of action!
To rise to any challenge you must understand the nature of that challenge and its implications. To look at BV as the end result requires consideration of future needs and aspirations for everyone. Some love BV as it is, some, well we know what some think, but we can't afford to alienate part of our customer base through what facilities we have / don't have and the way we present them.'"

I don't like making comparisons but will make an exception here, I'm sure you've been to that paradise known as Headingley, their none parking facilities are far worse than ours and their street parking is on a much bigger scale than ours, the area is famous for the hundreds and hundreds of students all packed liked sardines into bedsits and multi occupancy flats, you know when you come across them because every house has the trade mark mattress fridge freezer or 3 piece sweet adorning the front garden yet only one dustbin for a building with up to half a dozen flats in it resulting in household waste piled on top of it, having said all that I'll make my point which is the one I made to you earlier Leeds Rhino's have no problem at all in finding sponsorship, corporate or any other despite all it's anti social problems, could that be I wonder because of the way the club has been professionally handled, not to mention the success it's had on the field, I don't have a problem with you wanting a new ground at NM, but please base your argument on it's merits.

I think you'll find that there is a "sponsors" car park with ample match day parking for that elite bunch at headingley icon_wink.gif .

How is it snobbery to state facts. It is a fact that Agbrigg is a dump, there's no shying away from it. There are several other places just as bad - Knottingley, Seacroft, and Featherstone isn't that much better.

As for the stadium, I went in Sunday but I felt no envy. Location wise it is awful - there being only one main road out of it. The pitch is a on a slope. The turnstiles were farcical. They may have more seats than Us buts that's about it - and they nicked them from a run down football club.

I tend to agree with Willzay - they've done a decent job of cobbling the place together, but it's hardly paradise; it serves their purpose in terms of where they are now, but it's still a dump. We should aspire to much more.

With regard to the deprivation of Agbrigg - never fear - the Tories announced a few days ago that Lord Heseltine is to be brought back from the dead to lead a massive project to knock down and rebuild all the grotty housing estates in England; I'm sure it won't only focus on high rise estates in London and the South East, so we in the provinces will definitely get our fair share...

You call it condemning, I call it commenting. It is what it is, however it got that way.

As for NM, I have said as much as I can on here.

And Leeds Rhinos have 2 reasonable car parks, albeit Joe Bloggs here has to walk half a mile!

I don't have a problem with staying at BV - done properly - but I believe a new stadium would be easier and cheaper to build and would provide more commercial opportunities.

To be fair to Featherstone Rovers, I'm not sure they can make great changes to the location of the stadium. Most sporting clubs in the north of England were originally build in "working class areas". Some have moved out of town to sparkly new locations but those that keep their old stadium often have back to backs leading up to them.

I like the stadium itself. The stands are good and clean and comfy. The access road is a single road but short of buying and knocking down the terrace houses at the end of Post office Road they can't help that.

I think the point Vasty was making was that they've made the best of what they have, and we have not done that so much. Shame and Envy are clearly strong words to describe that but at the end of the day, when i say in my comfortable seat watching rugby league, I had to think that I would prefer to watch Wakefield in something similar, at our location.
If it was my choice we wouldn't be located in Agbrigg, but to move away leaves history behind that is important to some people.

Wigan left a huge amount of history behind when they left Central Park. They seem ok in their new place. We'll be ok in ours when we get it.

That's a good point I always miss as I live Newmarket side of town.
I'm not bothered about it being near Cas though.

Wigans ground is still in the middle of wigan and the town is wigan rl mad. Newmarket is in the middle of fields in no man's land. Like it or not Newmarket will kill this club, the stadium will be a dead duck sat there mostly empty and a generation of fans will be lost to put club. I suggest TRB you can't say anything cause there's nothing to say. If the club as such a cast iron case against the council or developer's going against the government's decision then why don't we go to review. Your mate TRB had a stadium out on plate at a meeting with councillor croxhall and turned it down with a What's in it for me. Throughout the fight over the last 10 15 20 years for a new ground we stay at bv while other clubs plan and deliver at Dewsbury, fev, batley. The biggest problem now TRB is we have no assets to bargain with and who s faults that your mates again. Il put this to you Newmarket will not get built and it's not the council's fault or the developers or swags efforts, the blame is firmly with all the bad management the club has had prior to MC taking over.

With all due respect, I think the site at NM gets a bad press. It may appear isolated and 'in the middle of a field' but that's because it's on the edge/inside greenbelt where building is not allowed. It is also not within the City boundaries as Stanley had its own council prior to 1974, like Cas.
It would be interesting to compare how many current Trin Fans live within 1-2 miles of the two sites.
Stanley/Outwood is now continuous housing, they've done nothing but build there for 40 years and the population has exploded. It is also relatively affluent due to being commuter belt for Leeds, so there are a lot of newcomers who are potential new fans (although many are already Rhinos). There is also the new link road being built from Wakefield through Eastmoor and Stanley Ferry to the M62 along with lots more housing.
The painful truth is that within a few decades Wakefield will be no more than a suburb of 'Greater Leeds'. It's already started.
It won't be easy and it will be very different, particularly the matchday experience. The change will need to be managed well, but IMO it is the future. A purpose built 21st century stadium; nostalgia won't pay the bills. It would be a different kind of stadium, much easier to use for a variety of purposes, all year round, especially so close to the M62/M1. I could become a centre of sporting excellence as well as conference and meeting facilities.
Change is difficult and, personally, I would rather stay at BV . I hate sitting down to watch rugby and I don't need fancy toilets. However, if the club is to survive and thrive over the next 50 years, staying at BV will make it a much bigger challenge. Unless we come into a lot of money (probably more than it would cost to build NM) BV is not the answer.
