| Quote: bren2k "Plenty of people wished for Mathers to have a sit down; what they didn't wish for was the whole team to be disrupted to accommodate it. If Mathers was injured or dropped, Jowitt should have got a go - easy.
Who even was the fb today? Sometimes it was Sykes, sometimes it was Sammut; I was as confused as the players looked.
I'm not one to bag the coach normally, but today was just mental.'"
Yep. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

| Team selection had been mentioned frequently on this thread, I only wish it was as simple as that. That performance was down to one thing...psychology! Thats it plain and simple. How can you run the best team in the league so close one week and the next put in a shocker against what are a team that are close in ability. Sick of these performance under Agar. Since the beginning of last season;
Bulls away
Salford Home
Hull(reserves) Home
Hull kr Away
Cas (mm)
Bulls Home
Already this season Bulls at home and today. One common factor, we've gone into these game with reasonable form and belief we had to win these games and put in a stinker. This is survival year of the most important we can't afford to lose any 4 pointers. The guy doesn't know how to target these games. He's never faced a challenge as unique as this. From this year and last years results he's not up to it. No doubt we'll follow todays performance with two close run and decent performances against Leeds followed by a mullering by Cas! The guy is out of his dept for this challenge so sack him now or spend rest if the season watching over our shoulder at Bradford.

| I still can't come to terms with him experimenting with the team selection against a team we had to go all out to beat. This is not a season to be experimenting at all never mind for one game. I hope the pro Agar brigade can now see what the rest of us find so frustrating about him.

| Agar added: “Some of the defence in the second half looked as if they had given up. There was a lack of effort and it looked like we had stuck up the white flag.
“That is a difficult one for us as coaches and we’ve got a lot of questions need answering. The first place we’ll look is ourselves – did we prepare this team right?”
Answer....No.

That's a fair enough question for an inexperienced coach to ponder.
However for someone who has been around as a top flight coach for several seasons
its something he should know how to do.

| I don't consider myself to be in the 'Agar Out' camp just yet, but I do question like everyone on here, some of the decisions and preparations that are being made for our games....
Is another option to look at what support Mr Agar can be given in terms of both the coaching of the team, and his own development?
For instance, I look at what Brett Hodgson is doing as an advisor at Widnes with their three quarters; to me he seems to be having a fantastic impact, and man for man they're no better than us....
I think about the impact that having a real man-motivator, and team building specialist in John Kear had on our early season games; we would routinely take scalps in the first six weeks of SL, before other teams had been able to gel in the way that we had....
I also think about the impact that sports psychologists have on performance, at EVERY level of sport, especially the highest levels....
Is it more achievable given our budgets, instead of saying 'buy out the coach's contract' - that we look at options for working with people like the above? We're still experimenting with our halves (apparently); what impact on our halves working with Joey Johns for a month have? Would getting a Rinaldi type figure in to work with our three hookers help?
Can we fly Wally Lewis over for a fortnight to talk to the players about playing for the Trin in the 80s, as well as I think getting some mojo back amongst the supporters too.....
How about buying in Paul Sculthorpe for a couple of months to work in a specialist manner with our forwards?
There are sports psychologists of world repute at universities all over our green and pleasant land, who MUST undertake research and work with sports teams in order to maintain their standing.
[list * I suppose I'm talking about options that will be more financially viable than buying the coach out of his contract;
* they will support and develop the coach as well as the players;
* you could be talking about working with stars/legends of our game that players will get a real buzz from working with;
* this will give buy-in for the fans who are questioning the current status quo;
* also, it will all add to the marketability, reputation, and buzz around the Trin in the lead-up to Newmarket.[/list

| Quote: Red-Devils-PAW "Hi,I come in peace and with respect for your chairman and the way he dealt with Red League.
I saw this quote from Mr Agar - Richard Agar, was left fuming. [i"What we served up there was terribly short of what we need to do," he said. "It's brought up a few questions as to why we would have a performance that lacked skill, effort and desire. We had so many blokes not wanting to work hard for each other. We will look at why our commitment and skills were so low." [/i

A couple of seasons ago when Mr Agar took over,after you had been in admin.and he assembled his squad late,you managed at the end of the season to reach the play-offs,were you in a better or worse position than you are tonight after the same number of games?'"
The same position points wise - we won 2 from our first 7 in 2012.
Round 1 - Widnes (A) - Won 32-14
Round 2 - Hull KR (H) - Lost 22-10
Round 3 - Leeds (H) - Called Off
Round 4 - Bradford (H) - Lost 36-18
Round 5 - Hull FC (A) - Lost 14-10
Round 6 - Huddersfield (H) - Lost 32-14
Round 7 - Warrington (A) - Lost 32-30
Round 8 - Catalans (H) - Won 32-22
I would expect the performances to improve as we get further into the season and the team has more time to gel, however we looked like we were starting to see that with 2 good wins (admittedly against poor opposition) followed up by a good performance against the league leaders where the ref had a huge say in the result.
To go from that to this abject display is shockingly disappointing and with Leeds, Cas and Huddersfield our next 3 games (not counting a Cup game against Leeds too) we would need to see a huge reaction from yesterdays defeat to not be 2 from 10 and our season in tatters and with relegation looming.

| Before the start of the season we were talking about Agar using his influence as France coach to maybe lure a few of their players to Belle Vue.
Is this an indication of his coaching ability, that not one has followed him to Wake?
Or in his opinion, would he say that there is no one up to SL standard?

Certain players need persisting with, it is clear to me that Lyne has some ability but it could be a while before he is at the top of his game because players all develop at different ages/rate.
He is still only 21.

| How times have changed. I can remember back in 1979 when after building a good team and guiding it to the Challenge Cup final, a certain Mr Bill Kirkbride was sacked following a heavy home defeat by Castleford. They didn't mess about in those days. Or did they!

If this is the question, the answer is Agar is not up to the job.

Morrison still cutting his teeth in the coaching world.
Don't think coming to Wake at he moment will do him any favours.

| The thing that bothers me with threads like this is that they are so reactive.
I have no out and out love for Agar. If we get someone else I'm ok with that.
BUT we can't just keep asking for their head every time we play badly.
It isn't so black and white.
The very fact that the opening poster has only been posting Agar out threads since the start of the season, but has been completely quiet when we won a couple shows that some have a blind spot against Agar, as much as those that like him have a blind spot the other way.
I'm still of the mind that I want Agar to keep going and see what he can do.
We have a tough period of fixtures coming up so unfortunately we need to be ready for more losses. We need to improve but I won't want to just sack Agar if we don't beat Leeds twice.....I might if he just keeps randomly changing the team!

| Plus as has been mentioned on several occasions, he is sitting on the best part of a 3 year contract!
