Quote: 60sCat "I really am fed up at losing but more fed up with our so called supporters who continually slag players off, especially Richie Mathers. Yes, I was at the game and you have to ask why Mathers was continually under pressure. It was most of the team, whose tackling was suspect but you have to give credit to Wigans superb handling, passing, dummy runners and OK a few dodgy passes. There seems to be a caucus of 'supporters' who just watch Richie and are waiting for a mistake. In fact there was a group behind me yesterday who were intent on criticizing every move Richie made and cheered loudly when he was sin-binned. I am not sure why the made the trip over at all! For God's sake support the team. We have so many negative and cynical supporters (especially on here) it's very very sad.
Gotta calm down now!'"

I agree with you on this. I am a proud fan of Wakefield Trinity and will follow them whatever the weather but do feel sickened at both home and away games when I hear some of our fans constantly slagging off our team. The constant slating and nasty comments must impact on performance in a negative way and I have seen this on many occasions with Fox & Mathers.
The other extreme is the wonderful support that comes from the Northstanders with the singing and cheering and seeing how this impacts in such a positive way to motivate our players.

I read with interest the boards of other teams and none are as pessimistic and negative as some of our posters.
So come on lets back the lads! WTID group-hug.gif

I agree too.
The most important support is when the team are going through difficulties.

We have had players saying how the fans have really lifted them in the past. Bet they are not saying it now.
We need to get back to basics too and just support the team we love.

I wouldn't disagree with that sentiment, but some of the players have to understand their role in this; if they look like they're giving 100%, they'll get support - it requires reciprocity.

I'm not one to bag individual players, but when it's right in front of your eyes that someone is not trying, it becomes very difficult to appreciate their efforts.

Quote: Slugger McBatt "I wasn't there today due to other commitments but on the whole I'm not bothered about the result. The players could have flogged themselves to death and the reality is that we would have lost.

For me, the season starts next week. We need three wins from the next six. Just draw a line underneath the start of the season and start from now. Bradford have got a tougher six weeks than we have. Blow this next period until Easter and the panic might set in.

For me, the usual scenario is that we are plucky and gallant losers against the top sides but then pathetic and dire against the teams around us. Well, we lost to the champions, away from home. I don't care how we played. How we play against Catalan interests me more.

New week, new start. Let's see how we are looking coming out of Good Friday.'"

Catalans (H) We've won 5 of the last 7
London (A) 2 wins and 1 draw of last 7
Saints (H) 2 wins in last 7
Hull KR (A) 3 wins in 7
Leeds (A) 0 wins out of last 7
Castleford (H) 2 wins in last 6 (No Cas in SL in 2007)

Catalans- tend to start slow, they have a few injuries and we have a decent home record - Definitely winnable
London - not the happiest of hunting grounds for us but realistically if we can't beat the this season then we're in trouble
Saints - Not the worst record against them at home but they look exceptionally good so far - can't see a win here
Hull KR - Not had the best of starts although against better opposition than us - It's a game we can win if we have gelled in the preceeding games
Leeds - History suggest this is not one we are going to get anything from
Castleford - Great start for them and our record is better at their place than ours but it's a derby and that makes it anybody's game

3 from the next 6 is definitely achievable as long as we make a good start on it this weekend.

After Good Friday will be a good time to judge as you say - Until then let's get behind the team and staff we have and give them some much needed encouragement

Is it me?

I just don't get this.

We have played three of the most beatable teams we will face this season and lost to all three.

Yes Salford was close, but no cigar.

Bradford was a bad loss.

But Wigan was the worst for me. You can never call any Wigan team poor, but they will not put a more inexperienced and beatable team out this season but we never came close. Didn't really expect a win but there were 20 points separating us.

So if we can't run that Wigan team close what makes you think we will get close enough to any SL teams to beat them within the remainder of the season - I can't see it. Bradford are already just 2 points behind us and London look no worse than us. - I respect you as a poster Slugger but I find the comments you and others make a little complacent - as I say it could be me.

For me we could come out of the Easter games more or less relegated let alone in better shape.

That's because their teams are playing well per at least to potential, what would you expect.

As for nasty comments that rarely affects players and was as rife in 2004, 2008 and 2012 when we were quite good.

I agree with all your assessments there.
The difficulty is, that 4 wins possible does not mean 4 wins minimum/expeceted as some people read it.
I'm feeling positive about Catalan, London Hull KR and Cas but if we only get 4 points across that group it isn't the end of the world and it doesn't mean we are going down.
JK used to group the season in to 4 groups and planned resource and long term plan appropriately.
The end of the first period would be Hull KR in this fixture list. So first quarter still gives us a possible 3 wins. The next section has Cas twice and Widnes away but a run of four away games which could be taxing.

The third group is where we can change things. We play Bulls away, then have a run of home games against London, Wigan, Hull, Leeds and Widnes, then go to Catalan away. This is the section where I see us causing a fuss. We should be playing more as a team by then, we will have a lot of home games with hopefully a good loud following and the dry ground will suit our style of play.

The fourth section is tough but we have Cas and Hull KR to finish so if we need points to push up to 8 or push away from relegation those two are the must wins.

Of course it means nothing on paper, but that's how i see the season going.

It was the manner of the defeat! Easy for you to say when you werent there. Body language appauling. We paid good money yesterday we were a beaten team before we got on the pitch. Cant believe a coach can pick the same wing/centre combination that Fetherstone ran rings around. Agar seems to have a obsession with the forwards that wasn't the reason we lost yesterday yes it didn't help but our attitude was all wrong, tactics, pretence effort. VERY POOR icon_rolleyes.gif . Wigan were there for the taking. No doubt boots n all and SL show will say gallant effort by Wakefield but apart from a handful the performance was woeful.

Given the team selection and looking at the games coming up I get the feeling that yesterdays game was treated by the coaching staff as nothing more than a training run for the main events over the next fortnight. I get the impression that the fall out of that tactic was that mindset being taken up by some of the players, hence an impression of them being at less than 100%. Whether this was really the case I don't know but it kind of looked that way from the outside looking in and it wouldn't be the first time Agar has used that tactic for the Wigan away game.

I agree effort must be there. Tatui gave 110% yesterday. What the hell were Sykes ko's about! That is not effort at all.

I do think we need to get the "there for the taking" thing clear.
The only players that were not regulars was Hampshire at full back who will clearly be their next big thing.
Manfredi on the wing
Greg Burke, who quite a few Wigan fans rate very highly and have been caling for his inclussion in the team.

All the others are first teamers though they have got some good rotation

Big gamble to think he can change 4 or 5 players next week and they will instantly perform good enough as a team to get the win. I would have understood the mentality if for example Wildie had been in the 17 (because McShane loses his effectiveness having to do 80 mins) and Washbrook had started at LF and Walshaw wasn't propping, but can't see how yesterdays team selection and performance put us any nearer to being capable of stringing a winning performance together.

Weren't there something like 7 players who played in the WCC who didn't play? That being the case we had a better chance than normal to beat them and frankly never looked like doing so.

Off the top of my head 3 of their first choice three quarter line weren't playing nor Pettybourne
