Quote: PopTart "As far as I can see we are a club with little money. We have been this way for a long time.
We got used to fighting at the bottom and those that came enjoyed the battle.

What the Glover era did was effectively buy us a better life on credit. We all enjoyed it and lots of others came to enjoy it too but it turns out it was fleeting because credit eventually needs paying back.
We are no worse off than we were before in rugby terms because it was all temporary anyway. I'm disappointed because I was starting to believe we were on the up. That makes the crash down worse but that's life.

We are not selling the crown jewels. We are having to give up the assets we bought on credit. In real terms it's horrible when you have to give up your 50 inch tv but it's better than having to give up the house.
We will have to make do with a portable for a while.'"

Bang on the money. I think its time we (fans/club/wakefield) accept that Wakefield will have the club it deserves. We can look back and blame a or b or c. or we can look forward and make our club something we can genuinely have pride in.
We all know the club needs to build bridges in every direction. It needs to be both a professional and community sports business. The people of Wakefield have to invest some pride in it and for this to happen the club needs to engage long term and not just when the well runs dry. For the older generation who remember sucess many still have that pride. Except for the diehards, for most under the age of 60 its has been a club bouncing along the bottom for years, a little sucess followed by a big crisis. It has a damaged reputation, it goes beyond AG, JE & Ted. All these have tried and have had some elements sucess of but ultimitley its been followed by a crash. Its not a lost cause, it can be rebuilt and sustainable with good management. At the meeting MC was right, first and foremost it needs to be run within its resources (however tight). Short term it needs to pay its bills. Long term it needs to pay its way, pay suppliers, pay wages, etc. It needs to develop its commercial activities, the lottery, the academy and going forward Newmarket and all that brings. It must engage with and listen to the fans. Ideas posted on here in the last few months have raised thousands, prizes donated, players sponsored etc. Long term this dialogue needs to continue, the fans need a voice at the top table long after the bills have been paid and this crisis is over. Personally I hope MC is the man to take us forward I like to openess so far. But if he isn't but he gets us to a sustainable footing to build upon well I'd also take that. If all this takes a few seasons to get to a point where we can be in the top flight again or a top eight club then so be it.
Rant over, off for a cup of tea.

Yep,that is why after so many other 'false dawns' I have never felt so 'down' re. Trinity.
Thank goodness for the World Cup to take my attention away from it a little.

It seems for some this is one major let down too many and even some long standing supporters have had enough. And you know what, I know exactly how they feel.

I know how you feel but (if only in my mind) the people left to sort it out are not the ones who caused it so i feel i need to support them.

They certainly didn't cause the problem but our current chairman was in charge of doing the books up until the end of last year wasn't he? He must have known we were heading for major trouble, surely something could of been done to flag up the problems earlier and stop things getting so bad.

Although maybe he did and dumb & dumber in charge ignored him? Either way he was part of the board that allowed this to happen even if he didn't 'cause' the issues and this isn't lost on many of the fans who are now expected to dig into their pockets again. I fear the club may find less enthusiasm to do this than previously may have been the case.

If our current chairman was indeed incharge of doing the books until the end of last year, he still wasn't calling the shots was he......merely doing the paper work so to speak?

If the current team was bought on credit does anyone know how much we have paid off. I would assume they would want to show that the sale of first team players is working.

Maybe so but he wasn't just a pen pusher though, he was a shareholder in the club holding twice as many shares as Elston did. And whilst Glover was (and still is) the majority shareholder by a long way and called the shots, MC and the others held 40% of the total shareholding and had a voice that could of been heard.

I don't blame him for our troubles, far from it. And I don't disagree with the course of action he is taking to try and rectify it, whilst I don't like it there is no other choice other than administration which would lead to our demise even quicker. At least this way buys us time and gives a chance of something happening however unlikely, look at Salford this time last year. But I would love to know just how it was allowed to have got to this position in the first place.
