I have been all around the world, was in raf 22 years , Mississippi 8 years , I now live in halifax but wakey will always be my town. I will always support wakey, though thick and thin. If we don't win cups do be it , but cut me in half and it will say wakefield through the middle

Watched a film called Parenthood the other day (very good) there's a scene in it where the grandmother compares life with fairground rides.

[i"I prefer the rollacoaster, all those ups and downs, it's more exciting!
Some people don't like it, they they go on the merry go round but that just goes round in circles"[/i

I'm happy on the Trinity rollacoaster, you stick to tooting your horn on the rhinos merry go round.

Oh the arrogance.

I’ve been watching Wakey for forty years & the only reward I’ve seen is a poxy Yorkshire Cup.

I wonder if you’d watched Leeds win sod all, you’d still be going to watch them?

But there’s one thing for sure, if Trinity ever do win a major trophy, the euphoria will be far greater for our supporters compared to the Leeds, Wigans & St’s of this world.

Like our constant strife, watching your team win a trophy must become a little repetitive.

Not at all arrogance whatsoever.
I am saying wherever I live I would support Leeds as did my father .
I have lived in several cities but always watched Leeds.
I have watched Leeds win naf all and I have watched us play pretty crap for many a season.
What I am trying to say is I would sooner watch my team win something than not win anything.
Isn`t that what our great game is all about?
Yes I admire your loyalty and I think that goes for most RL supporters barring the few bandwaggoners . But as you say if you did win something you would be more than happy .
At Leeds we can watch and support our local team and still see them win trophies.
Believe you me if you have watched Leeds for as long as I have then winning them is something you do not tire of.

Well said dj and Clan

The thing is chapy, it is not a case of right and wrong. We are not wrong to be supporting a team who has had less success than your team, just as much as you are not right for doing so. We all have our reasons for picking our team. Enjoy your team for what it is and leave us to enjoy ours.

There are differences is our experiences because of the way our teams play. Your supporters seem to demand success and leave well before the end of the game if it isn't going their way, no matter how close it is. We moan about our team a lot but equally we glory in every small thing we do, whether it is a win against a "big city club" or even just a good effort from the guys against the odds.
I watch lots of sport. In particular I enjoy watching football on Sky Sports. I enjoy it because I have no team and can watch as a neural and can switch sides if I wish. Its a good game and presented especially well on Sky.
When I watch Wakefield I am watching 'My Team'. That is different. I share in their trials and tribulations and feel great when things are going well and sometimes the opposite when not. I am passionate when we are toughing it out and feel agrieved when there is an injustice on the field. I look for small glimmers of hope when we are down because I want them to do well. I share a bond with the other fans without really knowing most of them (and some I would try hard not to in any other area of life!)
I look forward to the day when we win the Grand Final in glorious style but it will not cause me to question whether I am right to support them if they don't. If we finish 5th and don't make the final, I'll treat it as a victory. If we just make the 8 beating Cas in the last game I will wallow in the experience and enjoy the banter with the Cas fans........and if we lose our franchise and end up playing Batley or Dewsbury in our big local rival game, I'll still feel the same.

That's how it feels to watch 'My team' rather than just a team that wins things.

Ah, maybe I misjudged you.....but the difference in this post is that you say you would rather see your team win than lose.
Your first one implied we should rather see 'your' team win than 'ours' lose.

I watch Wakefield because they are my local team, my father and his father before him watched them too.
I have built up a loyalty from watching them in good times and bad over the years.

You imply Leeds fans watch cos they win things. Does that mean you would have supported Wigan in the 80s and Widnes in the 70s, might be tough between Bradford and Sts in the early Super League years.
Shallow at best mate.

As for Leeds as a city, I work here and like the city a lot. It is a moedrn thriving city....but Wakefield is my city and that's where my loyalty is.'"

Chapy, chapy, chapy, you just got slapped.

I would have loved to see how many Leeds fans would have turned up if they had fielded a team like we had to after our administration period. After our team got cherry picked left right and we were left with what resembled close to an academy team.

Never the less, many supporters turned up and stayed until the very end of each game to clap the young lads on the field. And believe me they were on the end of some thrashings that year, but we had a team and for them to band together a go on that pitch every week was something which deserved our support.

With the amount of glory supporters and fake fans Leeds has, those who leave way before the match just because it hasnt been their day, would have loved to see the turn out.

That’s a pretty arrogant statement for me.

Quote: chapylad " What I am trying to say is I would sooner watch my team win something than not win anything.
Isn`t that what our great game is all about?

Of course it is, however, my club has to battle on two fronts and unfortunately when the RFL changed the goalposts the emphasis went more on to stadia than rugby.

Maybe not, but surely the first time is the sweetest?

eusa_clap.gif There is something about a small club like Wakefield Trinity with its huge history and tradition that has made me want to go and support them. I'm proud to be from the city despite now living a distance away.

A top 8 finish again and a good run in the Challenge Cup would be great. It would be brilliant getting back to the final as we did in 1979. Watched the semi & final last night as I remember the games as a kid.. Fantastic times and I hope they will return with R.A. at the helm. k020.gif

For the most part sport is a cyclical entity, many teams take their turn at the top but none stay there forever. Some visit the top more frequently than others and some stay there a bit longer than most but time moves them on eventually.

Our last turn at the top was during the 60s, we've had our false dawns since then accompanied by the odd season of success when we won the Yorkshire Cup and being Championship League leaders and Grand Final Winners.

We watch our team in the hope, nay beleif, that our turn will come again, soon!
In the meantime we share an almost symbiotic existence with Wakefield Trinity that, while not exclusive to Trinity, not many supporters of other clubs are priveledged. It means we feel the lows that much more but we're elated by the highs even if they're small ones by another clubs measure.

Are we less of a club because of this? The answer is no, we are more than most because our adversity has drawn us together and only fans from similar backgrounds will understand that!

At Wakefield Trinity you cut one and we all bleed!

A Leeds fan will never know that and you're poorer for it.

Nothing has been officially released by the club but as I posted earlier in the Featherstone entry to the website they mentioned Poore playing, so the club are suggesting he isn't going to be banned by the looks of it.

I wouldn't expect you to understand, but it's clear the majority of Wakefield fans don't support them to 'win things' in the here and now. We've been through some terrible times recently, we've been to the brink of existence several times, we've seen our side hammered for the majority of seasons (especially Glover's first season) and of course we tragically lost those dear to us. So forgive me for not caring if we haven't won a trophy recently.

But through those hard times, it has bonded fans to the club in a similar way to Salford, London and even Bradford fans who i'm sure will still be there regardless of what comes there way and not just for winning trophies.
