"I can tell you the atmosphere was extraordinary at Wheldon Road on big days. The ground held around 15,000 people, every one of them close to the action on the field and the noise would be enough to send a rumble through the town" - Malcolm Reilly "Reilly - A Life in Rugby League":d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_39793.jpg |

| I saw an interesting piece in The Times the other day (found it on the beach) about a group of high profile sports people who have written to the Government protesting the insidious selling off of playing fields that has taken place in the last decade or so, and lamenting the decrease in public sports facilities that are now available; all this in the midst of an obesity epidemic and in the run up to the London Olympics. In short, their view is that these things will contribute to a worsening public health crisis and our ongoing lack of ability to produce world class sportspeople.
Meanwhile, Fatty Arbuckle sits on plans for a state of the art sports facility in one of the most economically challenged regions in the country, which can be delivered at zero cost to the public purse; to add insult to injury, shortsighted people who live in the actual district that will benefit from the facility hatch plots to see it fail at the planning stage, purely out of self-interest, jealousy or pure bloody-mindedness.
To quote the great Alan Partridge, "This country!"

It makes you sick. The whole set up is an absolute shambles.

| 'one of the objections to wakey's plans for newmarket is that in their planning application they have referred to the long distance footpath it lies on as the pennine way when it is actually the trans pennine trail. they are trying to make light of this by saying it is only a minor detail but it isn't. they are completely different, one running south to north the other running east to west. this may result in them having to completely re-submit a new planning application'.
Taken from another forum. Any truth in this?
