What makes you think that? What say does Glover have in the running of the business until his ownership has been confirmed? Either the story is complete bollix, or the administrator cannot afford to run the business with the present number of staff in place.

Isnt making lots of people redundant more expensive than paying them their normal wage? Especially if there are people who have been there some time.

Don't write this in stone but when people are made redundant they become a creditor of that company I believe. Which would be WTW.

Or - the administrator is issuing redundancy notices at Mr Glovers request, to avoid the need for TUPE, which from experience is a right royal pain in the backside.

If he takes over tomorrow, all of this could look very different; the organisation is leaner, cheaper to buy and free of dead wood.

Or maybe the beer has kicked in.

Can the administrator do this? This is my question. If Glover doesn't own the company yet, can the administrator issue redundancy notices on his behalf? Can I phone up tomorrow offering to buy the company on the understanding that anyone with a certain surname is made redundant before I do? I have my doubts.

And are the new jobs going to be re-advertised openly, or is it a closed shop, so to speak?

Have they actually been fully made redundant or just told? There is a statutory period that both parties have and often people are made to work their notice before redundancy is complete. If Glover takes over tomorrow and they have only been notified of redundancy he will have to employ them under TUPE

The signs point to Mr Glover never actually submiting a proper offer and therefore the Administrators treating this as a liquidation.

The administrator certainly can issue redundancy notices; my suggestion was that he could be doing so as part of an informal agreement with Mr Glover, rather than under instruction. It's not unheard of when buying a business out of administration, to have the administrator do a bit of dirty work prior to completing the sale, to preserve your relationship with your new staff and stakeholders.

Outstanding holiday pay, wages and redundancy pay is classed as a preferential creditor - if the administrators don't have the funds then they have to submit a form to the insolvency service (Government owned).

The newly formed company doesn't hold any liability for the debt - nor does the person taking over the company from the administrators.

The major problem if it's true and the company has gone into receivership is the creditors have lost faith (guessing it's HMRC) which could now force the club into liquidation and in short you'd no longer exist.
