Surely the RFL would find it difficult to send us down with a debt free club, millionaire backer and a brand new 12000 stadium on the horizon
Widnes were debt free with a millionaire backer and IN a (fairly) new stadium.

We've struggled for the past decade, the means of obtaining our promise land are days (if not hours) away, we can struggle on a little while longer.

We know a thing or two about wars of attrition (and how to win them!) in this part of the Shire!

Will all be worth it when the news breaks.

Why must you drag down every thread by making comment about a club which is not your own.

The vast majority of threads over the past two years has been derailed by you and the like by passing your "informed concern/comment".
It's been as plain as day it was a two horse race between two local clubs- therefore local passion will be at a constant bubbling point- why come on here and make comment/judgement when you know all you will get are heated responses to immature posts. Oh wait, that's what you want.

This isn't about free speech, it's about decency and respecting that this is/always will be a very sensitive issue for many people in our locality.

For ironies sake if nothing else I hope (and the like) you get what you deserve when the tide turns for us in Wakefield. I won't come rushing to your aid after years of reading your provocative drivel.

A bit of balance should always be welcomed, there's a lot of you here counting chickens and all that, just calm down until news actually breaks - at the moment it's all rumour and nothing more.

Exactly, this what the RFL said of Widnes' application last timeWIDNES VIKINGS
The stadium is an appropriate size and well appointed following significant investment in recent years. The club has been in the difficult position of seeking to take into account the club’s historical attendance and playing records but naturally distancing itself from the previous regime’s financial record. The current company has only been in existence for a few months following insolvency in October 2007. Early indications are that under new ownership the club has made very good progress so far and has attracted good sponsors and the support of the local authority. The club has maintained a reasonable playing infrastructure despite being in the National League but this would require further investment to ensure that they could be competitive in Super League particularly within Club Trained rule

We were basically told that no matter how good the new owners were, they basically had to prove themselves 1st before we could be considered for a licence. Thats the official version, the more cynical person might say the RFL were looking for any excuse to exclude one team, whether that was Widnes, Wakefield, Salford or Castleford. This time round, Wakey could find themsleves in the wrong place at the wrong time, no matter how rich the new owners might be.

You were basically told, in a positive and encouraging way, but without stating the fact explicitly, that the rule that was in place regarding clubs going into administration meant that there wasn't a place for you. The SL clubs seem to have done away with that rule now, after the trouble the Crusaders found themselves in.

I'm absolutely certain that your club will be in SL next season. We were (and at this moment still are) red hot favourites to make way for you. However, if we get a new owner who's prepared to invest serious money into the sport, it doesn't mean this is now necessarily the case. We may still end up on a 3 year promise, like you were, with the order to build a stadium in the meantime. I could happily live with that.

This is the key part that differs:
"The club has maintained a reasonable playing infrastructure despite being in the National League but this would require further investment to ensure that they could be competitive in Super League particularly within Club Trained rule"

WT don't need further investment to play competitively in the SL- we have been doing that for years! We have an established core and a vast army of lethargic support which could be easily galvanized with the right leadership.

That's very interesting - especially this bit, as it suggests to me that they used the excuse that your academy would not be set up sufficiently to produce the line of players required, where-as the Wakefield one is competitive within SL and has produced a Championship winning side who are now approaching the age to start breaking through into the side. eusa_think.gif
