| Quote: Slugger McBatt "Good call.
I met Vasty last season on the terraces, and he seems like a decent bloke who cares passionately about the club.
I sat with Mopsey at the Supporters Trust meeting the other week, and he seems like a decent bloke who cares passionately about the club.
In the end, isn't that all that counts?'"
To be honest I don't feel that way anymore and haven't done for the last 18 month. I only came back on here this time out of a sense of obligation and an attempt to add some balance.
I prefer football now. Rugby League the game means nothing to me at the moment. I find the hypocricy and the mentallity of the game nauseating.
Sure football is flawed in many of the same ways yet you still get a Blackpool, you still get teams outside the elite competing for silverwear. Above all it's uncomplicated, the rules stay roughly the same and everyone has a chance of competing at the top level based purely on there on field achievements. There is still a little romance left in football.
Compare that to this ugly sanitised second rate Aussie clone we have as a game and it's not good. It's to master race for my taste, a game where only the perfect and beautiful have a place.
In fact it's the exact opposite of the game I left football to watch 22 years ago. I loved the shambolic but fair homespun nature of the game. It's still shambolic but any sense of fairness and working class values has long been extinguished.
I want Trinity to survive and prosper, but so far after 22 years it's just been survive. I feel I've wasted far to much time on a no hoper team in a no hoper sport.
I'll still go but same as last year it will be on a game by game basis - no season ticket again for me. There will always be a place for Trinity in my heart but not RL the sport.
I'm not at the Bradford game today because I can't be bothered to travel, still I wouldn't have bothered if it had been at BV. Three years ago I'd have walked over hot coals. I do feel guilty but there you have it.
So I'm afraid Mopsey wins that one, he's more passionate than I.

I think you've summed up the feelings of many many RL fans from every club in the game, even some of the successful clubs.
Some have yet to reach the point of almost abandoning the sport but they will recognise the sentiment all the same.

all the game is doing at the moment is turning fan against fan and club against club. the rfl is wanting a full time sport but this cant be sustained on the current revenues. we might be one of the first clubs to go through the mire but we wont be the last.
i missed a couple of games last season because it was making me bad watching it just bored me to tears, started watching yorkshire ccc again and felt relaxed. is there any hope for teams like ours in sl,for me were there to make up the numbers just like 80% of the others. salary cap working my backside

| Sadly I agree with both vasty and mopsey, if thats allowed, I am a home and away supporter for the last 25ish years and I currently could not care less if I ever go again, like you both say theres better things to watch and I found myself getting angry with the situation any sane man could see unfolding last year.
Shame really, some of the best banter, laughs and times have been had on the 10th slab of concreted down from the back just to the right of the sticks over the years, I actually want that slab of concrete, but whether I want RL and WTRLFC as much as I did, only time will tell, just hope we all stop falling out over it and remember all the good times.

| Agree with a lot of the above regarding SL these days. The game has come very robotic. No skill or flair from 1-7 in most teams plus all teams run the same 1 set play. SL backs are not a patch in comparison to what we have seen in previous years. If anything he skill levels have gone down in England, along with the fortunes of our national team.

| Can understand the sentiment entirely.
I have lost a lot of enthusiasm for the game itself - and I blame much of that on our position not being dictated by matters on the field - where it should be.
To further complicate matters, RL, and WTW in particular, has always been the one thing that me and the Mrs have enjoyed together. With the exception of a handful of games we have been and watched the team play most games for over 20 years. Her first RL game ever followed our return to the old 1st division, when we had just beated Wire, Wigan and Hull (AK's interception! ), and we played Salford at home and got stuffed - courtessy of Tex Evans' hatrick. Now I genuinely feel like I'm putting her out by taking her to games!
I would lay some of that blame at the club and some at the way the game has changed. I am, by nature, a loyal kind of person - even when that is not in my best interests. I like 'normality' and 'familiarity'. I like to feel that there is something bonding me with the players, the coaches and the management - and I genuinely believe that we get better performances from the players when they feel it too. So, given that, who is our longest serving player - Sam, but he only came around 2005. BJ was here earlier, but left and came back. Otherwise, nearly all of them have been here only since around 2006, and too many have only just arrived - and I'm sick of it! I liked that side with Grixy and Ollie Wilkes etc, yet we ditched them for something 'better' - well that turned out well! The only other person who really cared for the club was JD, and he.... well it just went sour.
So, despite the fact that I long for some small modicom of success going forward, I desperately, desperately hope that some of these guys we have at the club right now, especially the academy kids, stay with us for 5, 10 or even 15 years - possibly even do a JT and stay for longer. That we build affection for them and them for us and, that by doing so, we demonstrate that the club is viable and stable and will hopefully have endeared a much wider audience to come and view who we are and what we do.
We're all doing it tough right now (it's just a phrase but it's so very true right now) and all of the people at the club must feel it as bad or even worse, so let's just hope that all this can be sorted quickly and we can begin the long process of getting the pride back into Wakefield's premier sporting club!

| As fed up as I am over the whole SL/RFL b0ll0x, during last season I also pretty much lost my appetite for wakey aswell, just an excuse to meet up with mates, a few pots and if it was a Friday or Saturday night, a trip to the Red Chilli.
I do feel reinvigorated and up for the fight now, there's nothing like a bit of trauma to gurd the loins.
To say how things have been so wrong at the club, this is an opportunity for the club to put itself right, let's get behind the new owners, let's put something into the trust and the RfN group, this is the biggest chance of some momentum we've had in years, let's not miss out, cos we can't be ar$ed.

Nothing wrong with watching YCC, I've been a member for nearly 20 years and it seems this next season we might play a all Yorkshire born side, full of young guys, mainly due to finances but none the less.

| Got to agree with Mopsey and Chapster. I went to Bradford today and was bored. I've got the utmost respect for our guys who pull on the shirts and usually to a man give their all, but I'm tired and fed up with a sport that doesn't want my team (and others like them) and a sport that doesn't give a shiny $h1t about clubs below Super League.
I now get more pleasure watching local amateur rugby league than I do professional rugby league

That's the key, there should be major restrictions on imports, everyone agrees to a quota then makes a mockery by signing garbage players on Greek passports or whatever. We're as bad/worse than anyone.
