| Quote: vastman "Of course it's a better squad.
BJ for Rooney anytime
Cooke for Brough is hardly the most uneven swap ever
Millard for Atkins, different but still quality
Morrison classiest and most creative forward at BV since Solomona IMO
Gledhill and King are both decent replacements for Sculthorpe and Stosic, I liked Stosic but I think people are a little rose tinted in his favour (sounded like Harry Hill then).
However the really big difference this season is that a number of young players are becoming real contenders whilst a few others who have been around a while should really hit there straps this year.
Murphy
George
Morton
Davey
are all SL ready now.
Kirmond looks interesting
Henderson is frankly magnificent at the moment
Johnson who is a real classy player is yet to be used.
Over all we are a better stronger squad over all but we all have to concede that Brough has left a gap. One thankfully that seems to be getting filled.
Tronc and Newton are losses but to me only the loss of Brough may cause some problems and that is a may.
That's how I see it.'"
nice post but the original poster said we are better off squad wise than at the start of the season, which we arnt!

fair point PB and in the past ive been mr "rose tinted specs" just a bit worried about how things are panning out, and frankly still a bit sick over brough and tronc, it will pass!

im all for thinking beating cas playing as badly as they are matters usually, but at the moment it doesnt, because vasty, we are playing badly at present and frankly i cant see who is going to drag us out of the mess, cooke is the great hope but id say thats about 30/70 against.
not having a go at someone whos posts i enjoy reading, just trying to get this in perspective.'"
Perspective!!!!!!!!!!! Familiarise yourself with the word as quickly as you can. On Tuesday we may be 6 wins from 10 games.
Look back over my posts and I think you will find a common thread that Mr Brough (of whom I am sure you refer) never 'dragged us out of the mess' in all his time with us. I'm quite happy with the team-players we have now.
Tronc will be a loss IF he goes anywhere but I have ever increasing faith in the administration of the club to make the best of the situation.

Were not in a mess IMO, if it had been anyones fault then maybe but it wasn't. We are on 12 points and sitting pretty. There is nothing anyone can do about Tronc and Newton so why worry - no one at the club is. As for Brough I'm a fan, but we were not and never will be a one man team, he was just a part of it. Why the need to over do it.
Truth is all teams only have so many great games a season in them, we probably less than most of the top 8 teams. We have used one up against Leeds. We don't need to be the best we can be now, we need that later, nows about grinding out wins which we are.
I'm realistic, I know things have not gone to plan and I know we are not the best in SL. However get the timing right and play your best when it really matter and dreams are made.
Look at Saints and Leeds, hardly pulling up trees at the moment, look at Hudds look like superment. As a betting man I know which of those teams I'd back and it isn't Fart Town.

| We have had a great start, but we laboured to a win against a dreadful Castleford side last night. Our attack was poor and we looked void of ideas without Brough. Any top side would have ripped us both apart last night.

I don't believe any player is bigger than the club, but we've lost, in my opinion, the best half back in Super League who was our main attacking force, someone who gave us something a little bit different. Now he's gone, we've lost that and have no ready made replacement, which I think makes us look predictable. I'm not saying the club will go under by any means, but the reality is we are not as good without him as we were with him. I trust John Kear to find us an adequate replacement in time, but until then I'm worried that we have no-one who can open teams up with a flash of genius. Just my opinion though.

I don't have a problem with that and agree up to a point, but Cooke offers something different and will play off the cuff so all is not lost, needs BJ back to his best and Sam to push them both. Team effort needed.

| I'm not a Cooke fan and never have been. He's a good goal kicker and throws a nice pass, but i think we need someone who does more than just move the ball on. That said, I didn't want Jefferies back and I thought he was tremendous before his injury. I hope I'm wrong with Cooke, but from what I saw last night, I wasn't too impressed. But only time will tell.
On a positive note, I thought Blanch was superb, Morton looked safer than ever and Murphy is looking stronger every week. I just think we need to find him a settled position now.

| the big test will be on Monday...
from a distance it seems that JK has changed the style of play of the team to compensate for the lack of creative spark.... both the Salford and Cas games were comfortable wins but both were ground out, stifling and choking the opposition into submission... Warrington (and Hudersfield for that matter) were too good for that to happen.
We wont be able to do that against Wigan.. so we will need to find another way to win the game.... should be interesting to see if that is possible without Brough's influence.... or a suitable replacement (fwiw, I felt Cookes' signing would compliment Brough sublimely... he is not a replacement and I think its a shame we were denied the opportunity to see them in harness)
