| Quote: rubber man "I suggest you get particularly worried about the threat of a player leaving if you feel they are a) irreplaceable or b) they are so pivotal to team performance that the remaining players could not operate to SL standard without him. In DB's case I do not believe he is irreplaceable (even within the budgetary parameters his departure would generate, although the time for recruitment would be a challenge if starting from scratch) and the experience last year showed me that our best team performances didn't involve DB.
Whatever the outcome of this issue, I come to the same conclusion as TRB, the club will certainly go on, and I would go as far to say may actually see an improvement in fortunes.
By the way, is it a nice BMW?'"
Didn't even realise they made minibuses.

| If we're giving him what he asked for, what's his problem.

I can understand him not signing up now, he'll wait and see if he can get a better offer elsewhere, thats how i would see it, of course he risks us finding another player and dropping the offer but he'll wait as long as he can.
No loyalty will be shown.

| Stayed out of this debate as the info I was given wont please anyone on here, not saying its concrete but just reporting the info relayed to me. A friend of mine who is related to someone on the coaching staff at hudds saidbthat there is a contract in their safe with danny broughs signature on it for next season. Suppose only time will tell whether this is true or not, could be a wind up for all i know but this type of underhand dealing does go on in our game and more frequently than you would like to imagine.

Whatever will be will be, he's not the be all and end all of rugby league and our club. At least people understand he's been offered what he asked for so theres no chance of sniping at the club.

| If he is on his way do people think we will start the season without replacing him, make a move for a deal such as Cooke or will we have a bolt out of the blue?

My sentiments exactly. The club have done their damndest to keep him whether he opts to stay is up to him.

if that is true then I would expect Trinity to do everything in their power to expose that deal. They should lodge their suspicions with The RFL and then set about brokering a deal with any and every club except Huddersfield. If Broughy has a contract with the giants he will systematicaly turn each and every one of them down. When his contract is up and he suddenly announces that he's signed on at the Galpharm the RFL should investigate his agent, DB and the giants.

| As I said it may be a wind up, then again it might be true, only time will tell. I for one seriously hope its a wind up as DB is the one player at our club who we really could build a successful side around. Even if it is true how would it be proven? Also if it is true there is nothing to stop DB turning his back on them and signing with us or any other he club he may get offers from, its hardly like Hudds could come out and say we've got a contract with brough as they would be admitting to tapping up. I know of a player who (a couple of seasons ago) had a contract signed with Cas but then signed with his existing club after they upped their contract offer for him, nothing Cas could do about it as the contract in reality isn't worth the paper its written on until after the anti-tampering deadline day.

| As long as the club set DB a date in the not so distant future to confirm his intentions, then I don't have an issue.
Scenario 1: DB wants to stay and signs his contract
Scenario 2: DB decides his future lies elsewhere, we keep him until his contract expires. In the interim period we have got plenty of time to secure a top class half back to replace him for 2011. If the stories are even vaguely accurate regading the size of the contract, then that kind of money would get us a better player than DB.
What I wouldn't want to see is the club panicking and looking for a replacement now, we have got plenty of time.

Beg to differ with that one. If you want to build a team around someone you choose someone who is consistent, who puts the team first, who is respected by his team-mates (i.e is looked up to, not just 'one of the lads') and does not throw his teddy out when things go badly. Danny may get to that stage in the future, but for now he's a very good player who occasionally is sensational - he is NOT (yet?) a leader. For leaders in our team you're looking at JD and Obst IMHO.

| Clearly the best scenario is for him to be signed and sealed.
Lets imagine however that he is holding out for a free at the end of the season and leaves. Whilst he is a talismanic player to us for whom a like for like replacement would be hard to come by, such players (arguably better players) have come and gone in the past 5 or 6 years and the club has continued to flourish. I beg to differ with upton cat that DB is the one player we can build a side around. I think there are several similarly important players but at the end of the day the side is build around and by JK and PB - their constant presences is reassurance enough to me. DB had done us a decent shift - I'd love it to go on for longer but if it isn't to be good luck to him and we will move on.

| Quite frankly I'm getting a little tired of all this. We have freedom of contract and he can sign for anyone he wishes at the end of his current contract. If he sees his future away from Wakefield I don't have a problem with that I just wish things were honest and in the open so we can plan for the future whether that be with Brough or without him, I'm not bothered either way.
I would like him to come out and sign an extended contract but one thing is certain we will get over him if he decides to leave.

| I get what you're saying but with more quality around him he will only get better, if we can attract players to the club who will complement DBs style of pay then we will be in with a chance of really doing something. If we can get the likes of Millard and Morrison running off him then we will be hard to stop. Agreed JD is a leader however he is also 34 this year so hes not exactly the type of player we will be looking to build a team around. Obst is great for us and epitomises everything that is Wakefield Trinity but lets be honest Brough is the most complete player we have and he posesses that x factor. Yes hes a morngy cocky sod, all the best scrum halves are, the reason hes like this is because hes a winner, he hates losing

Agree totally with this. I can't think of one occassion when the team has been up against it where DB has rolled his sleeves up, taken a lead, brought others with him and it has resulted in an unexpected win.
