I think alot will depend on the squad improvements planned. Seems clear to me Aiton performs to a high standard week in week out and will only get more frustrated if his team mates continue to make basic errors that cost us games we should be winning. Maybe thats why he apparently stormed off down the tunnel on Monday night.

The other issue is what we will be spending cap wise. We need to be careful that we don't go down the Cas route and put too much money into one player, which then leaves us with a lack of quality and depth in other areas.

Suprised we only gave him 2 years to be honest, when you consider some of the players who got 3 (unless of course 2 was all he was prepared to comit to.

Lets hope that he is really grateful for RA bringing him over here ?
No doubt that he is a quality player and it would make a pleasant change if we could hang on to our best players, instead of the usual revolving door that we have had in the past.

This could be the first test of the statement made when the new club was formed, that we would not be a club that sold our better players.

That said, how do you keep hold of players who have made their minds up to leave.

I'd be very surprised if we are not trying to extend both Smith and Aiton but ATEOTD it is all down to the offers we are able to make and probably comes down to us needing to offload some players who are not playing or performing to the standard we would like.
I won't mention any names as I don't think it is fair to slag off the players in public but there are certainly some players in the squad that are not getting any game time and are a waste of salary cap space and there are one or two who are playing but not to the standard you would have hoped for.

I am sure it is being worked on and that we will see things moving in the next couple of months.

It is a difficult one, at the end of the day these players only have short careers and need to do what's best for their families. Until we are challenging for honours on a regular basis we will have to accept the fact that our star players will most likely be plucked by the big dogs, it's just the way of the world.

All we can hope to do is hang onto them for as long as possible or hope that they fall in love with Wakefield and decide to settle here (we're hardly the French Riviera but you never know.)

But one day our day will come and we will be the pluckers and not the pluckees!

You need to have your best player in the most important position on the field. Aiton is head and shoulders above anything else we have at the moment, and he spends most of his time in the most important position in my opinion. Every effort possible needs to be made to keep Aiton here and build a team around him, he is potentially worth raiding the piggy bank for.

Smith I would be less bothered about, still too inconsistent for my liking at this stage and whilst he has shown flashes of brilliance he would be much easier to replace in my opinion.

I'd dig deep for Aiton - surrounded by quality, he has the potential to be one of the most exciting players in SL.

A player to build a team around, without a doubt.

What i don't understand is why he stays on thepiptch and ends up driving it in when Wood comes off. If he is up to doing that just leave him at hooker all 80 surely? then get another prop on the bench

As bazza Fishcake stated on another thread hes agreed an extension, believe its only a 1 year extension though with next years contract starting on his new improved terms which for me he thoroughly deserves. Believe it or not but he was one of the lower earners this season! Great news he's agreed to stay!
