| Quote: RWB "Carter seems to be deflecting from any blame here. Whilst he has done wonders in the past, clear to see that in recent years he's let the squad get gradually weaker.
He allowed us to go into the season with one recognised fullback, that was plain for all to see. Gaskell at fb didn't work last year, should have been addressed and is the route cause of most of our issues this year.
I would say we were clearly light at 9 too. Argument that we had 3 in Hood, Kay and Bowes perhaps but for whatever reason Bowes doesn't seem to really be fancied there.
Top it off, our club captain and presumably one of the top earners played 6 all last year. Even with him we barely stayed up, he was replaced with a championship prospect.
We let Batchelor go and bring in an ex NRL player at the end of his career in Proctor. Obviously no knowledge of this, but its reasonable to assume Proctor will be costing us more than we offered Batchelor. How can that be justified, one of our best players last year, coming into his prime should surely be worth more to us?
Again not sure of all the details here, but Gaskell was seemingly brought in to cover FB and half (although FB never worked out for him). Presumably costing us more than we offered Hampshire (if there was an offer) was who was decent enough cover for both these spots. Carter in charge of recruitment/retention and negotiations has not been a success in recent years'"
He hasn't let the squad weaken o purpose!!!
We have lost 300k in central funding and have had to replace a pitch, lights and renovate the Cats bar roof from our own funds. Where do people expect him to find that money, his sock draw?
Seriously though, I honestly can't understand why people who I assume run their own finances in a prudent manner seem to believe that somehow magic money exist for a RL club - it doesn't.
Our crowds are crap and always have been in SL, it's taken years to win back the trust of local businesses, and endless delays through no fault of our own to get the ground finally updated.
Do fans honestly think they could do better? I know most of us do but I also know most of us wouldn't last ten minutes. I get it that for fans the sport is a bit of a fantasy to help lighten the realities of life, but that's on the pitch. Off the pitch the rules of the real world apply, thats a fact, it's final, there is no argument.
Carter and Co have not weakened anything, circumstances have, and if fans can't work that out then they are not looking.
Can we just not be realistic, please. We've hit a hump in the road, but together we can get over it, pointing fingers simply doesn't help, never has.

| £500k not £300 in Central funding.
And the crowds are down a little because of the new stand.
But equally, could you do better is not a good argument.

I guess for you this only applies to the board but coaches like WP was fair game.

I understand a lot of what you are saying but its hard to stomach when they talk about us not having the money to spend that other clubs do when we are paying CIRCA £200K per year to Gaskell and Lineham combined.
I totally get the reasons why we do have less than everyone else but I dont think we have made a signing that has actually improved our team for about 3 years and when you are in our position as a club that just simply isn't good enough. People may go on about it was Chester who signed players, Poaching signed other and now Applegarth but the same CEO/BOD have signed off on all those deals.

The procedure of the club used to be that all contracts had to be signed off by the board, and this also used to apply to admin staff.

Think you can add Tafua to the list, totally stupid signing and I bet it cost a few Bob to get him over and to pay him.

| I am not pointing fingers but I am definitely pointing thumbs. When MC took over we were a financial disaster. He was able to bring his accountancy expertise. The obvious first place is the playing budget. He sacrificed the first season to offload the highest earners or any he would receive a transfer for.
I presume he knew that we had the end of season playoff to fall back on. This strategy saved several months of wages before new players were recruited just prior to the relegation playoffs.
We survived and for the next few seasons progressed. I can only assume he believed his financial strategy worked.
With regards our current predicament we have once again reverted to saving on the player budget and by bringing in a coach he could influence being his first stint in charge of a SL team.
What he forgot or did not realise is that the accountancy strategy won’t work without the possibility of an end of season playoff.

| Just going back to MC's announcement a few weeks back now.
He's invested £2m into the club, and said that he cleared a debt of £2m.
Would that suggest that in 10 years he hasn't actually invested anything into the playing roster?
Also, rightly or wrongly, I'm not sure, I looked at the club statements, and interviews around the time of him taking over, and posts on here, the debt mentioned was nowhere near the £2m figure. Instead, it was around £450k, big difference. Where did the extra £1.5m ish come from.

| So worse case, he invested £2.5 million?
Are you trying to imply that isn't good enough?

| What ever MC has invested it’s still more than anyone else has offered during the last 10 years. There must be a lot of secret millionaires kicking about this forum. Let’s hope when he leaves there’s a knight in shining amour willing to plough money in.

| Carter hasn’t put anywhere close to £2m into the club, that’s his fantasist figure
I read somewhere that the only way he could reach that figure is by charging the club for unpaid CEO wages X 10 years
