| Quote: STB "I have no idea who Mal is? I reached the same level as your son at Wakefield Trinity and was selected for the First Team but had to withdraw through injury. Various circumstances dictated that I would never be selected again and therefore never achieved a heritage spot. I did however play with a lot of young lads/men who were brilliant at Colts and even A Team level but never really made it at First Team level at Wakefield Trinity. It can take a lot of hard work and sometimes patience (Terry Crook for example) to make it at First Team level. Most good juniors dont, unfortunately.'"
I don't think anyone doubts that.
But suggesting a dad is wrong to support his son 100%, no matter what, is just misguided and not understanding the situation at best

I never said he shouldnt support his son? I questioned the manner and the use of this public forum , which is visited by the CEO who takes a dim view of these types of comments.

Tough luck, not everybody believes the sun always shines out of his backside 24/7 and if he doesn’t like what is written on fans forums the maybe he shouldn’t visit them. And if he wants to continue reading them then maybe he’ll have to ‘suck it up’.

Most of us learned not to visit this forum a long time ago! I just thought I would give it one more chance With regards to the CEO, in my 45 year association with Trin he is without a doubt the best person we have had running the club in that time, and I think most real 'supporters' recognise that. He doesnt suffer fools though. Maybe that's why you struggle with him? May I take this opportunity to wish Innes well in his time at the club and I hope it all works out for all the young lads whos parents frequent this forum. If it doesn't, life goes on, it did for me

Not sure why you think i have a problem with him, it’s just i’m not as sycophantic towards him like some. If you’ve followed the club for 45 years then you should know by now to question everything, only an idiot wouldn’t. You seem happy not to though.....Carter has done well during his tenure given where we were at. Is he the best? Difficult to say until his time with the club is finished but as for the competition the bar hasn’t exactly been set high has it?! And for what it’s worth like you i too recently decided to give this forum one last try. Probably a mistake.

Well having plenty of one to one conversations with MC on a regular basis, he knows me quite well, as a chairman of one of Trinity's ambassador clubs, a player in the PDRL team and joint assistant manager of both the PDRL & LDRL teams I have a pretty good understanding as to how RL works in the real world right now and don't base my knowledge on 45 year old memories
BTW "Mal" is reference to a rugby league legend, I thought anyone with such high rugby knowledge as yourself would have picked up on that

I know who Mal Reilly is. I've met him a few times. Thanks for your up to date advice Michael. As I say, I wish your son well. I hope he appreciates your 'support'.

But the CEO is OK with your comments?
He's discussing a subject raised by someone else. Leave him to do that.

| FT leave it alone now. You are both randomly taking the others post out of context and weirdly SC now switching it to Carter.
The thread is about Innes Senior. Let's leave it that way.

| Quote: vastman "Because they are not the same. Define what you mean by young.
Take Greensmith as an example. He is young, seriously young but more importantly he has little experience. I may be wrong but he hasn’t got any rep appearances . either. He hasn’t even been out in dual reg yet??
Now I’m with you in that we leave it far too long on some cases but not these.
These Cas or Wigan youngsters are usually a year older than Greensmith and have done some time in the lower leagues.
Now for the controversial bit, Cas spend big on youth and we simply don’t because we can’t. So let’s be honest we get the best of the rest, it’s a fact. Luckily some of those are either late developers physically or better still just missed going to a top academy. It’s a credit to all that we produce what we do, someone at the club has an eye for latent talent.
You look at any Trinity TV game featuring the U19’s. There is one v Cas and although we do well just look at the physicality of the teams. Cas look bigger, stronger and older. They are men and we look like boys.
Ability wise we are probably fairly close but physically they are far more ready than us.
There is a reason Cas and Leeds hoover up the big lads. They don’t expect all to make it but those who do will be ready quickly and the others? Well at least they won’t be with us.
I know Greensmith is a big lad but he also has a boyish face. He’s not there yet, when he is we will know. I realise a boyish farce is hardly scientific or right every time but I reckon you get my drift.
Greensmith and Aydin would be destroyed are the moment imho. Bailey maybe, HBs are different. Gwaze, Walker and Croft at a pinch are the only ones.
TJ was special from the start. Jowitt and Crowther were both under age reps but above all most came into a team on the up not on the way down. Not massive but still crucial.
It’s tragic we have no A team or DR to get them ready but if we had that’s where they would be for me.
Sorry if I’ve upset anyone but I have no vested interest either way, just 50 years in and around the game and that’s how I see it. Apologies for any factual errors.'"
Cas have finished bottom two last two years in academy

Apologies for trying to add some balance to the negative clique that now control this forum. I'll move on again, as has Michael Carter already, I believe.

| Don’t why MC has been brought into it AGAIN. I imagine the only control he’d have on a signing is the money. Other than that, it’s all Chester.

That’s a different issue. Not every batch works that is the nature of youth RL. They pay more money than we do. It’s not as though I’m not echoing what the club often states.
Academy RL is not about league position and never has been, it’s about spotting individuals. We won the Academy about 12 years ago and they were a really good team but none really made it. People will argue as to who’s fault it was but truth is quality will nearly always get through.
On the other hand Johnstone, Crowther, Jowitt and Batchelor all came through via some very unremarkable youth teams.
Fact is Cas, Leeds and you lot snap up what appear to be the best 15+ year olds at the time and we don’t. Luckily though that’s no guarantee of success. What remains true though is that those young men are physically ahead and that issue generally doesn’t resolve itself until most players are 21+. Hence why I think our juniors are generally not ready for first team as quick as those from some other clubs.
It’s just an opinion I can’t back it up with data I just suspect I’m right.

99% of the best 15 year olds in the region are monitored by us and are approached by us when the scholarship time arrives but they are obviously also monitored by other clubs even ones on the dark side of the Pennines. We do our utmost to get the best we can but most choose the glamorous clubs and often are got by shall I say,not following recruiting procedures which we cannot match . The good lads we do get have over the past few years have been cracking players. This pandemic as knocked clubs back massively especially this years recruitment and the scholarship and reserve grades not being played so youth coaches need big wraps to get it back on track in the future.
