It was a friendly where we had the opportunity to run game plans, see how far we have to go and get people fitter.
There were good things in the game but I felt our attack was stunted.
The result isn't a problem, but there is definitely work to do.'"
Am sorry PT there wasnt anthing good in that other than it was a friendly dont want to seem negative as it was that a friendly but we carry on that way we wont win a game and im not saying it will but today was poor in every department.

| How much should we read into a friendly game ?
Fev were deserved winners, no question and not too many plusses, other than everyone got some minutes into their legs.
Gaskill and Miller in the halves wont frighten anyone and the best that we can say for our pack is that hopefully they are saving themselves.
On the plus side, there is PLENTY to work on.

| Thought our discipline was poor. Hoods offence on the 5th tackle was very poor and Dave's retaliation was also a poor response in possession making yards and we give away a penalty and another sinbinning.
That said it was a full on game and Fev really gave it to us. When we scored on half time going uphill putting us 4 behind I thought we would win comfortably with the slope but some poor play and options really cost us a lot of possession and territory.

| Gaskell and Miller did not work in any capacity. There was not even a shred of link up play. The panicked kick into a charging fev line from Gaskell I believe was atrocious play.
The defence on the right side was poor. Fev consistently went down our right side defence and had repeated success. Between Gaskell, Pitts, Lyne and Lineham something went horribly wrong.
As has been said the discipline was terrible and losing/turning over the ball in possession repeated times was poor.
As for Individuals. TJ played well, plenty of metres, a good chase back and I don’t believe any tries or breaks were made resulting from the left side D. It all came down the right side/centre. Fifita was (other than the retaliation) the best forward on the pitch by a country mile.
We need another big prop to punch holes imo. I’d stick Jai straight back to 13 as well where he had a brilliant game vs Fax and looked effective.
A lot of work to do.

| That’s was a Chester-esque performance today - I thought Featherstone were excellent, lots of energy, their forwards kept on turning up even though I thought they looked gassed at times.
I wont pick out individuals for criticism, but I felt that the creative department didn’t function, and consistently made very poor decisions. The return of Lino should remedy this I would expect.
Sene-Lafeo won the s*ithousery award of the day and did a great job at frustrating us.
As a genuine indicator of our pre season, this is a big worry. It’s another tough year ahead.

Yep...I was disappointed that Whitbread didn't come back on, so I'm guessing Willie wanted to see how the likes of Crowther and Arona would go on. I think he now has his answer. Other than setting up Batchelor's try Gaskell was very ineffective today, so Walker should get the nod against Hull for me (assuming Lino is nowhere near yet ??)

| Out enthused all over the field was our problem today and didn’t have an answer to their go forward for most of the game ,let’s hope the attitude changes in time for hull , or we’re in for a torrid time . Yes it’s only a friendly , but I know which coach will be the happiest of the two

I am not saying nothing went off that's for match officials the players need to respect the fact that we have possession and to give it away through a penalty and 10 mins in the bin is harsh on your teammates. Dave indicated to his throat when coming off. If the discipline find anything then action should be taken.

Batch mostly scored that through pure determination. Walker should definitely get the nod based on pre season form.
I really don’t want to start getting on players backs this early but Crowther needs to find a way to link into play better. He mostly ends up driving it into a cluster of players. Whether that’s down to him or the plays needs addressing but we need a pair of hands and attacking options at 13. On Whitbread scoring 2 and setting/being involved in 2 assists vs fax he needs to be starting at 13 vs hull on form.
Other than Fifita our forwards were largely ineffective today so I won’t single out Arona but there needs to be improvements.
I’m not going to go all doom and gloom. It’s a friendly and past today who cares.

Don't know about him, but a prop of his size and ability would be good.
On a plus I think Hall looks ready for a first team spot already.

Koppy was let go at the right time. He wasn’t as effective as I expected at wakey and the championship is his level now.
We do need a player with his size though. We lack another monster in the front row. It’s a position that’s been hard to fill not just for wakey though.
