Quote: Mick Amos 9 WTW "To say we've been had, is correct. We've been had for 15 years or more by various unethical, selfish and dishonest individuals and groups. Since Michael has come on board, he's acted in good faith. Paid back people he didn't need to pay back legally. But morally he did. When he's listened to others in good faith he's not been afforded the same principles and indeed had the wool pulled over his eyes. So the tenacity to keep going (Swag & Trust included) is a testament to the determination and character of the man and group. We all have a bad time at the office in work but don't often wake up to nasty, personal and vindictive attacks online by fans and fans of other clubs. This impacts massively on family life and has been the case on many occasions. Everyone is glad he continued! After previous owners knocked trust of fans, it took a long time to trust MC. That was understandable. So to be getting to this point is a massive achievement! Is it more for the ground and separate land than what was originally payed? Yes.. Does it grind? Yes.. But having acquired it, it puts us in a stronger position to move forward. We have an asset.

The good times on the field we have had on the field over the past few years have come by selling players at less than their worth as a need, doing things slowly but correctly. It took time, we took the hits, but we got there!

I've always loved Belle Vue, it holds personal memories for me and thousands of other fans. The old girl just won't give in or let go!!! A bit like our fans'"

No argument with any of that - but it has no bearing on what I posted; the only one coming out of this with any glory is Mr Carter, who's done right by this club at every opportunity. We've still been conned though, and YCP and 88M will make a killing.

Think this is good news after what has been, a very long journey indeed, though still a long way to go in the process.

I do think it would cost considerably more than the £3.15m to re vamp the stadium fully.

I just wish, If anything, we did this sooner, before 88m got involved.

Well done all concerned, with the club, and the proper trust

Quote: bren2k "Call me a doom-monger if you like, but this is a really crap outcome when we consider what was campaigned for and promised; anyone remember the lovely drawings of a shiny community stadium? Gone. The drawings of a redeveloped BV? Gone.

The winners her are YCP, 88M and Rodney Walker, who will no doubt have received some form of consideration for his role in allowing 88M to make millions for doing nowt, and getting YCP off the hook.

Watch the Kitwave thing get waved through now, and as if by magic, developments at Newmarket will come thick and fast - meanwhile, we'll be grubbing round trying to find money to tart up BV - fending off criticism from citizens who will perceive this as WMDC chucking money at a minority interest at a time when infrastructure and public services are slashed to the bone; it's already started on Twitter and will only get worse.

Anyone celebrating this is experiencing Stockholm Syndrome - we've been had.'"

You may be right, but I think you are wrong. The Newmarket saga continues. The Trust said recently they will continue to object to all planning applications for the Newmarket site. I attended the Kitwave planning meeting and was encouraged by some councillors who objected to the application and spoke out about the actions of Yorkcourt in this stadium affair. The Trust and supporters will continue to object until Yorkcourt provide funding for a community stadium/facilities as promised to the Secretary of State and citizens of Wakefield. I’m sure all of us will continue our support for the Trust and club in achieving their objective.

Thank you

Now that WMDC are playing ball, it does seem to expose Yorkcourt, who, quite clearly dont intend to contribute to any community facilities.
If there was any justice in the world, they would be prevented from laying another brick at Newmarket until there was full unequivocal commitment from them to do so.
They (Yorkcourt) appear to have got away with murder and despite benefitting from the white box construction and land being pulled out of green belt, primarily to facilitate the building of a community stadium, they are still putting 2 fingers up to the city of Wakefield.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing isn't it? I agree we should have been the party buying the Superbowl site and the ground instead of 88M as I don't think they paid anywhere near £3m to buy them, but sadly we were misled by people who supposedly had our interests at heart and convinced not to bid for them initially.
Now we have Yorkcourt making huge profits at Newmarket and 88M making a tidy sum from Belle Vue. Despite promises and snippets from both neither are going to have contributed anything. icon_evil.gif

From what I have read my take is that all anyone knows on here is that we have been "loaned" 3.5m to buy the site from WMDC. No-one appears to know anything else regarding when / if development will take place, if there is anything else regarding funding in place or even if plans have been drawn up. There's a hell of a lot of doom and gloom around (Hardly surprising tbh) but why don't we wait and see what statement the club puts out regarding the future plans before we all jump off the nearest cliff! We've been waiting 15 years if not more, a couple of months more won't hurt, will it?

Step in the right direction, but still alot of unanswered questions about how the redevelopment is to be funded. Can't really blame the 'doom and gloomers' for being pessimistic still - if we'd happily gone along with everything the council said we wouldn't have even got this far. Nice to see the Council haven't wasted any time putting this out to the media before anything is set in stone, like 'hey look, we're thinking about loaning them money to buy their ground back despite them threatening to take us to court...so we do care!' Nice one Denise!

Anyway, looking forward to hearing more on the redevelopment front.

The press release says "IN PRINCIPLE " how many times have we seen the council use that term.

Just hope this time they are honourable.

Didn’t the chairman say to only believe what comes from the club or something of that ilk? I’m not celebrating anything until MC says the land is owned by the trust/club.

Can somebody remind me please - what were the reasons given for the club not to bid for the ground when it was up for sale?

Because SRW told them not to.

Advise by Rodney Walker not to, allegedly, so that Yorkcourt could buy it. They offered a derisory amount which left the door open for 88m to step in and make a quick profit.

I thought the issue was them (Yorkcourt) not coming up with the deposit and thus allowing the second placed bidder 88M to step in ??
