| Quote vastman="vastman"I'd take Bailey in a heart beat. Steady prop at his peak age. As TRB says Kear likes his props old and mean and I'm feeling CC feels the same. I agree because I tend to think that players like Bailey at clubs like ours either rise to the challeng or fail miserably - thankfully in our case the latter is rare it's worth the risk imho.
Funny but what baffles me is that any NRL has been or never was is seen as great on here and many on here are happy to take a punt on an unproven like Cox. Yet a player with Bailleys CV is sneered at based on his perceived personality which frankly is a fairly common one in RL - we really are a snobby set of fans. Some of you need to accept that we are not ordering from the fine dining menu, we are egg and chips which can in its own way be tasty.
Someone please explain to belly what egg and chips are!'"
I wonder why since he has left Leeds he hasn't hung around at any club for longer than a season or two? Yes he's now past 30, but as Jamie peacock has proved most props can go well past that age and still perform. Players like him are interesting in the fact that at Leeds they were very small cogs in a well oiled machine, anyone with any RL knowledge knows the likes of said Peacock, Sinfield, Burrow, Macguire were the true 'greats' of that team and in their prime would have enhanced any other club, but players like Bailey, Kirke etc when taken out of that environment are shown up for what they are, very average, ordinary. Now that's not to say they couldn't do a 'job' at a lesser club, but I also think that mentality and attitude comes into it when you have had nothing but success at the probably best run club in the land, must be quite hard for those fringe players at Leeds to motivate themselves when they get moved on. At best he was a spoiler for Leeds, put there to wind opponents up and hopefully get them to give needless penalties away, but not entirely sure if he didn't give more penalties himself away by employing such tactics......

| Quote The Avenger="The Avenger"Rather arrogant of you to make assumptions on how others make judgements on players, I'm happy to assess Bailey based on his playing ability and not the pantomime persona he has. I think I'm entitled to that opinion without being diminished by some other poster who seems to think he knows better.'"
I'd agree with Bailey...we all see different things but I don't see him break many tackles and think there should be better out there to sign.Trinity are very light weight up front but need real quality.....like Sam Tagatese who is off contract and pushing 30...or Junior Roqica 25 Fiji International both old mates of Arona...I know money though may be the issue especially if A.Tupou still under contract.

That's the problem though, we need an English Prop or two, even if we signed an Aussie or kept Fifita, because we're at full cap if he stays. Apart from the Wire releases & Walker from Hull KR we don't now who's even available from other SL clubs. Obviously those that run our club will have a better idea, even though we haven't heard anything yet.

| Just to compare Cox and Bailey stats wise (yes I know) to get an idea how they did last year.
Cox played 18, Av. gain 9.06 meters, 1051 meters, Carries 116, 163 tackles, , missed tackles 11, errors 3, Pens 4. Tackle busts 16.
Bailey played 15, Av. gain 7.56 meters, 514 meters, Carries 68, 173 tackles, missed tackles 4, errors 2, Pens 5. Tackle Busts 10
Take out of that lot what you want.

If we lose A.Tupou and Fifitagoes elsewhere then that's 2 quota spots but again agree it comes down to money, ifs and buts...what is clear is that unless deals are already done then quality props will be gone....Anderson,Scruton and Yates need to be replaced with some proven quality and size. Not getting more players like Arona to cover there. Anxious times..

| We do hear something unfortunately these are signing rebuttals. What we don't hear are signings, so the benefit of making the 8 as far as being able to prepare with certainty appear somewhat misplaced.
If we planned to wait until after the million pound game it look like the majority of Hull KR players are staying put, loyalty I guess we did not plan for that. If this is the case then we are actually several weeks behind other clubs because we will have to start again and see what is left that we are willing to afford and are willing to join us.
We have signed Caton-Brown to presumably playing in the centres, Grix an experienced but injury riddled player who I cannot see how he will get much playing time and Williams, who many believe to be the new messiah however he only wants to be here one year and spent most of the season in the reserves.
I know things are bad when those on here believe we are anywhere near full cap. We are not and never will be unless we sell a lot more season tickets, but to do so you need the Wakefield public to be infused by the team.

You also forgot the best Prop from the Championship Keegan Hirst but hey ho. So what you're presuming is, we had one plan and that was to pick apart Hull KR. and now we are several weeks behind all the other clubs, even though we've already signed 4 players from eslsewhere. Yes I'm sure the likes of Kear and Chester operate exactly the way you think. Anyway it's not like you to put a negative spin on anything is it.
Have you actually seen what the other teams especially those that were in the bottom 4 have signed for next year, plus the overall lack of movement in general. Hudds haven't made a signing yet, Salford have made an internal one,Widnes have signed a Leigh player & Leeds have signed a Featherstone one.

By the way who's ever said we're near full salary cap on here? Never heard it from anyone.
Lets be right even if we signed Thurston, it would only probably put a couple of hundred pr so on our attendance. What we need to do to get fans interested, is a period of relative success, to follow on from this one and gradually improve.

| No I wouldnt say were up to the cap limit.
If we are I think were paying too much for some.
What we may be who knows is up to our own budget limit.
Do seem to recall MC and CC saying earlier in year if we average 6000 on gate through the season we will spend full cap
I worked out the average up to end of the weekly rounds and we were about 800 short I think.
