The new deal is thought to be worth around £25m a year, compared to £40m a year at present.
After the 12 Super League clubs take their share, it could leave little for the RFL, which gave up the right to conduct the broadcast negotiations when Super League clubs broke away from the governing body in 2018, and the clubs in the second and third tiers of the professional pyramid.
However, the RFL can now negotiate its own deal and also has its own streaming service, which has proved to be a boon for behind-closed-doors fixtures.
Also, as part of the new deal, Sky have agreed to make some of this season’s fixtures available via free-to-air Sky platforms in an effort to increase audiences.'"
I’ve heard that super league is going to be rebranded as NRL Europe and possibly go to 14 teams, quite where all the players would come from is beyond me. It would dilute the intensity and standards even further.

The mooted 10 team league is more of a concern.

And here was me thinking that the last restructuring of the league was the final one for years because the constant tinkering was harming the game.

RL in the UK is going down the pan.
The new TV deal is bloody awful, a 25/30% cut and that's not taking account of inflation over the last 5 years.
Where the sport will be in 10 years looks scary, especially when yo factor in the lack of junior rugby and the very likely further drop in numbers when the game gets going again (primarily due to covid).

| Suppose a 10 team Super League would put us out of our misery and maybe a place in the second tier could make us more competitive than we are now. Players would come and go, hopefully the coach would go and with a revamped stadium and a strong management a fresh start might be for the best.

| On the face of it we should be in with a good chance of victory tomorrow. We are at home, the squad is not as bad as predicted, Catalan will have flown in on the day and they lost at home last week.

Your right there, the game is in a right state and the powers that be just seem to bury their heads in the sand or are completely oblivious to what is going on. Junior and open age teams going to the wall every season, pro teams having to make decisions on young players at 18/19 when they have left the academy with their bodies not yet developed and no A team structure to drop in to. When you get teams in Wakefield/ cas and fev struggling for numbers and teams like west Hull struggling to exist your in serious bother. The scouts are scrapping for the odd good player and are even turning up to games with 12v 11. The level of knowledge about the game is not there anymore in fact you don’t drive past parks or fields and see kids throwing a ball about anymore. Challenging times ahead

The reason for the cut is because the contract has changed.
We got something like 40 million when it was exclusive to Sky.
Now they have a chance of selling games to BBC and other broadcasters.
Apart from hitting a wider audience, if the money from other broadcasters eclipses the 15 million reduction, then it's a masterstroke. If not then it's a problem but we know the product has to change if we can't sell it anywhere.
