| Quote: vastman "Well I for one have to admire Wallo on this one.
He never liked Grix and he still doesn’t - what’s wrong with that?
I liked Grix but I can accept others don’t. He’s not slagged him off as a person just doesn’t rate him as a player and is happy to say so.
I get annoyed at people who pick on young players because I don’t think it’s fair - give them a chance. At 35 Grix is not young and his career is now open for discussion - that doesn’t mean it can only be a round of back slapping, he’s bound to have his critics.
I do and I’m a genius.'"
Saying you don't think someone is that good a player is fine. But he basically bags him for one error in one game that led to a try and says it's the most significant error in 50 years. Well, what about from exactly the same game where Matty Ashurst misses a tackle under the sticks and Saints score. Why is that not just as significant? Or Liam Finn leaving a huge gap in the line for Theo Fages to score? Or any of the countless other errors players will have made during that game. He just has a massive chip on his shoulder about Grix for some weird reason.

FFS! Can you not see that there are two completely different issues here.
1. Grix's error was the most significant error since Don Fox's because;
The timing. 20 seconds of a game remaining so no opportunity to put things right.
The lost reward. Top 4 place with all the kudos and financial gain.
2. My thought's on Grix the player are irrelevant to the facts above. BTW not surprised he has scuttled back to his beloved Shudds again.

But Jakey just debunked that because the other errors in the game caused the same problem.
By all means bag Grix for not being as good as you want him to be but he is not solely to blame for what in fact would have got us to one more game against Cas. Nowhere near as significant as 68.
We lost a close semifinal to Cas in 69 and we were favourites to beat Widnes in 75 and lost a close one there too.
It's a team sport.

A great player? I think that's going a bit over the top!

I said since then. Doubt that incident will ever be surpassed.
I have attended the vast majority of games since then and stand by my comments that "due to the timing and lost reward" it takes 2nd place. Pulling incomparable run of the mill, everyday errors out of a hat doesn't change that fact.
IMHO

Tbf I think he meant a great player for us rather than in a global sense.

I did indeed - I forgot that RLfans has a strict hierarchy of acceptable words to describe players, from "squad player," right up to "legend."
I used the word great in a very specific sense - in that he's been great for *us.*

If you forgot that’s fine!
I do think the word ‘great’ gets thrown about too much. He’s done well for us, better than his first stint in my opinion, and I do agree he comes across as a model pro.

I don't disagree - we live in a world where the bar is set very low, and hyperbole has become the norm; so maybe we could agree on here that if we're using a word in reference to the acceptable usage list, we capitalise - ie Grix isn't Great, but he is great?

I think that’s a fair compromise! I just hope everyone sticks to or we’ll have posters calling Chris Annakin a Legend!

| Well I delivered a late night McDonalds to my gf and her pals the other night, and was labelled a 'legend' - so the currency of that word has significantly reduced; although to be fair, I don't know if they were capitalising or not, since the communication was purely verbal - and drunk.

| I wish people wouldn't do this on threads when a player leaves, he has put his body on the line and we have had good service from him overall, he should be allowed a goodbye thread without the digs, he has had plenty of critics on here for his errors but seriously guys move on, Thanks for your efforts Scott and good luck in the future.

I was just about to say the same.
In season by all means comment however you like but when someone is leaving and people want to wish him well, just wish him well or don't.
I personally don't feel the need to make sure everyone knows I didn't like him.
But for Grix I enjoyed watching him play, I felt he brought something good to the team, from my view he looks like a professional who would be good as a mentor and he clearly loves his family and mates.
I wish him good luck for the future
