Quote: El Rey "Didn't Leeds fine players for giving away pens.

You are right we must cut it out or we won't stand a chance.'"

One of the top clubs did, may have been Leeds. I just think frequent offenders (penalty machines as some call them!) are letting down the team, supporters and the coach.

I don't think I have seen Wake play as bad in a first half on Thurs for a long time.
Add to that getting spanked in the penalty count.
But we only went in at the break 6 points behind, a chance to regroup and look to play basic percentage rugby in the second half.
Instead we serve up panic station rugby like we were 20 behind.'"

I think it was the Stoop 2 years ago on TV we got thumped 36-0 and we were lucky to get 0
Wait a minute didn't we make the play offs that year- All's not lost on one bad performance.

6 pages of disecting RA, errors, team selection, referees and everything else and I think only one poster has mentioned possible replacements (JD & GM).

So, lets have it....Who is available / could be realistically tempted to come and take the job on for the money we have to play with after we've paid RA up?

Id love to make an up market suggestion like John Monie, but at best we're looking at the likes of Paul Cullen, James Lowes, Sean Long or another recently retired player who is looking to cut his teeth in coaching....are they any better than RA?

Cullen possibly is.....

Cullen had lots of chances at Warrington who were perrenial under-performers whilst he was there. Darrell Powell would have been a good replacement but unfortunately Cas got him. Glenn Morrison is a good up and coming coach so who knows if Agar doesn't get the best out of the team? He has that history with Wakefield aswell.

I'd rather we stick with Richard Agar though and give him a chance to coach his team. He has brought in some good players (on paper) this year despite a lower budget.

Over his tenure Wakefield overall have played some attractive rugby despite the 80 minutes of rubbish last Thursday.

Just hope he learns the lessons of the Bradford match & 'quick turn around' rugby and considers squad rotation aiming for those winnable games, especially in the pack.

Most importantly the next time on 18/4/14 against Cas at Home (absolute best 17) and then 21/4/14 with Huddersfield away (put out the second string). If we are not competitive in the pack for the full 80 mins then we have no chance. There is no excuse as I think he has the depth in the forwards to do it.

Quote: sandaltrinityfan "Yeah well the penalty issue has to be addressed. As a fan it is easy to think the referee is biased. I think if we just continue to think that and do nothing about it we will get hammered all season.
Why can't the players get smart, when will the penny drop, you CANNOT outsmart the system. If I was the coach I would penalise the players who frequently offend.
I'm sick to the back teeth of the opposition piggy-backing themselves to scoring positions because of OUR players stupidity.'"

I don't have any issue with players being smarter and avoiding giving away stupid pens; that doesn't address the skewiff penalty count in the first 20 though, and the fact that both teams are not created equal; one minute it's a penalty for holding down, next time it's a "Get up and play it!" One minute it's a high shot, next time it's off the shoulder; one minute it's a ball steal, next time it's a loose carry.

If ref's were more consistent, the players would know the boundaries within which to operate.

I agree 100% and Thursday night is a prime example of inconsistency, the only thing the ref was consistent about, was not giving a single offside penalty when both sides were struggling to get back 5m, it totally amazes me what a referee can see but amazingly also what he can't see d040.gif

Its hard to disagree with what you are saying Bren but, the one certainty is, very few penalties are conceded whilst in possession of the ball and therefore if we respect possession and complete our sets, the penalty count will even itself out (just as it did in the second half at Salford)
Your lads team will have better completion than Wakefield Trinity and they do this for a profession icon_sad.gif

I was very disappointed with our first half performance at the game, but watching it back the ref had a shocker which put us under enormous pressure. I'm not a ref basher normally and players must take responsibility, but I hope this is not the standard we are going to get just cos we are a lower table team

Ref had a 'mare, and is consistently the second worst ref in SL. Thats a separate issue that the RFL need to address.

As far as our performance goes - it looked like a pre-season performance involving players that are yet to adapt to each other. Bradfords advantage was they still had the nucleus of a decent team that had already gelled. In spite of all the mistakes on display, I was encouraged by the effort and tenacity shown by Wakey - there is something there to build on!

Some of the knock ons were due to the receiving player not reading Godinets pass - on occasion he 'double pumped' it which fooled both defenders and receivers!

Lynne needs to grow a pair - he didn't back himself to take advantage of a knock on in the first half, he should have protected the ball rather than himself when he gifted Bradford a try and his kit stayed suspiciously clean right until the end!!

All in all, disappointing but not panic stations just yet - they need to quickly assimilate a few 'go to' plays on the practise ground, try them out against wigan and then look for a win in the match after (wigan might just be a little too much to ask for, but you never know....)

No good kicking Agar out, he's had at least two decent teams sold from under his feet while he's been in charge and is doing OK with the hand he's been dealt.

Wow . I cannot believe this thread has been started . I am not particularly a fan of RA myself and certainly was against his appointment in the first place.

But

In the two seasons and two games that he has been here he has had to completely rebuild the playing staff on a shoestring (twice) and also managed to get us into the top 8 in a season that IIRC there were plenty calling for his head after half a dozen games. No other coach in SL has had anything like the number of hurdles to overcome.

I believe that this seasons team is probably better than last seasons. Ok we have lost our two opening games, but we created enough chances to win both which for me is very encouraging.

Richard Agar does not coach players to knock on I am pretty sure.

I know it is a relegation season and the pressure is on, but I think we will do ok and don't think we will be in the bottom two or three come the end of the season.

For now as far as I am concerned he is doing/ has done a great job.

ive tried to keep off here why do we under prepare games we need to win? i agree with wakefield till i die on page 2 if i heard agar correctly the only bit of training was a 45 minute team run this week ( no time with ball in hand with a new player to get too know the system and how we play when hes in one of the most important roles in the team that just doesnt make sense its as bad as tony smith turning up at 2.45 for a 3 .30 kick off cos hes been playing golf
