| I think all clubs have "where were you when Kennedy got shot" games. By that I mean games that attract a lot of interested people and due to the teams performance on the day hook them.
One such game was Wakefield's defeat of the all conquering Wigan team at the start of the 1988 -89 season. A newly promoted Trinity team didn't just beat Wigan they destroyed them. I reckon that game hooked a fair few. There have been others, the 2006 Cas game, Hull in 2004 but for some reason that game sticks in many peoples minds. That was my first game.

| I know for definate the first game I went to was the first home game of the 2004 season, can't say I remember who we were playing, but I remember me and my dad were both hooked from there!
I remember thinking after that first season how much we would improve the season afterwards... oh blind ambition!!!

| My first game was an'A' team game, I think in 1958, at Belle Vue,I don't remember who we were playing but I rember Ken Hirst had a good game.A few years later in the watersplash final at Wembley he scored the try that almost won the challenge cup for Wakefield.
There were no floodlights then ,so all games started at three PM ,no silly kick-off times.

I'm a happy depressive - the glass is half empty but the bar is open.: |
|
| Neil Fox's 2nd testimonial game in 1979 - went along to sell programmes with a couple of friends from school - then went to sell the programmes at the Bradford v Wakefield league game the next week or so - then bought a season ticket for Trinity.

Colin Dixon played for both Salford and HKR, but in the mid 70's it would have been Salford. I think he only had 1 season at the end of his playing career at HKR. I seem to recall that he was bought from Halifax by Salford for a world record sum.

| Colin Dixon was a fantastic player. Had a bit of a mean streak though. I suppose Hock would be an on field comparison these days.

Here's a story I heard about him many years ago.
Playing against Wakey he absolutely poleaxed one of the backs. Called over by the referee, who was going to send him off, he protested his innocence saying the hit was accidental. In the meantime Terry Ramshaw, a formidable hard-man second rower, overheard this and said to the ref, "he's right sir it was an accident let him stay on the field" to which Dixon changed his plea and began walking off calling the ref a *********** for sending him off.

| Think it would have been the last 15 minutes of a game in the 1987/88 season. When the stewards opened the gates (stewards to exits!) you could sneak in for free for the last 15 minutes. We'd been into Wakefield and my Dad said we'd call in and catch the last 15 minutes of the game before going home. I don't think he wanted to pay for me a full game in case I didn't like it! The only thing I seem to recall was there being a Wakefield player tripped in the corner where the big screen is now, the opposition player being sent off and Wakefield getting a penalty.
1988/89 and 1989/90 seasons would have been the first seasons I started attending regular home and away games. I remember away trips to Thrum Hall (Halifax), Wilderspool (Warrington), Station Road (Swinton) and the Watersheddings (Oldham).
