So fitting last night we didn't finish bottom. Kear as been fantastic for us. Yes we probably need a change but JK as done marvellous this year. Our club been through hell and he kept the players minds focused on the pitch; and to not finish bottom this year is a miracle. My hat goes off to JK. With brass he guided us to a top 5 finish and a cup semi final. If we havent of appointed Tony Smith Kear would of done great with that team in the end he saved us true miracle 4 out of the last 6 games. Beating Catalan away another miracle this season. JK will allways represent TRINITY never say die attitude hes dealt through adversity administration, players passing etc no man would have done a better job. Good luck to the guy and well done . Agar as got some huge shoes to fill. Some fans have short memories of what JK as achieved and how hes kept us together through major tough times but the majority shall thank you and wish you luck !!!!! GOOD LUCK

you are right mate. those shoes will take some filling and if you look at what agar has had over the last 4 years about £600 000 more to spend i would say, better players, great facilities, better backroom staff and nowhere near the adversity that jk has had off the pitch. yet not achieved as much as john. it will be interesting to see how he performs but for now. well done john you have done a great job for wakey and you can be proud of your achievements on and off the pitch. good luck for the future

Quote: imwakefieldtillidie "John Kear has been the best coach Wakefield Trinity have had in my 23 years of supporting, and if the choice was mine he'd be given another 3 years. The Castleford game will always be the stand out moment for me, but he's also been a class above when dealing with the tough times the club had faced, and there has certainly been a few. I hope he stays in the game, but I would love to see him in the Sky commentery box on a permanent basis. Great guy, great coach and I wish him all the best in the future. And what a way to finish, with both a peformance and result to be proud of.'"

Hard for me to disagree with that.

I would love to see Kear return to the helm one day if I'm honest, great bloke and a great coach.

It's good to hear I'm not the only one with these sentiments as it's felt like it for the last few weeks. You only needed to listen to John at Cedar Court to hear his frustrations with having so little money to spend on the team to know what a tough job he's had.

At the beginning of this season we couldn't see any wins coming, but if we hadn't been docked the four points I believe we'd have been 12th.

I for one think it's a real shame he's not going to get the chance to work with the players coming in next season and to see what he can do when we can afford to spend some money.

Thanks John for everything you've done for us. The last 5 years have flown and I wish you all the very best. I remain to be convinced we've made the right decision moving forwards.

All season I have wanted to come on here and have my two pennyworth criticising John but something always held me back and after reading all the threads on this topic I now know why. I have far too much respect and too little rugby knowledge to even begin to knock John Kear. Terrific man and a Trinity legend, all the best in whatever you do John k020.gif

Taking a dispassionate view of the season,we have:

a) Survived
b) Stayed in SL
c) Won more games than Crusaders and Quins with a squad that was ripped apart and hastily re-assembled just as the season was starting.
d) Gained a new owner who has the business acumen to match his passion for the club.
e) Taken two points off Cas at WR which scuppered their play-off place. icon_biggrin.gif

I would have taken this at the start of the season. How the hell JK has enthused our motley crew to achieve this is, IMHO, nothing short of miraculous and is worthy of high praise. I'm sorry he's going, but wish him all the best. He has contributed far more to the club than he has taken from it.

All the best Johnny Kear k020.gif k020.gif k020.gif

A huge thank you John. can't think of anyone else who could have got us through the last 6 games in 2006. Taking us into the play-offs and getting to a Challenge Cup sem-final. Then there's this season - keeping us from never finishing bottom of SL with a team that most people expected were not good enough to win a single game. If we hadn't had a points deduction we would have finished 12th, above Crusaders and Quins. Also only 2 wins less than Bradford!

Thanks John you will always have my respect for what you have done for WTW. Will watch your progress with interest in the future.

J.K.....What else can I say that hasn't already been covered on the previous 4 pages....I have been supporting this club for over 30 years, and in all that time do not remember any other coach that has done more for this club....if it wasn't for you, this club would no longer exist, as we would have been relegated and then gone out of business after 2006...you are an absolute legend, and wherever you go next, I am sure you will make a success of it...respect... a014.gif a014.gif a014.gif a014.gif a014.gif

Name me a better one then, I await with interest (and for god sake don't say Toppo because Trinity's expert fans at the time wanted him out for all the same reasons).

Fantasist like you make me laugh, please tell me the kids he didn't promote who are now ripping it up in SL elsewhere. Truth is they can always go elsewhere and if they are good enough they will make the grade. Kear picks teams based on far more knowledge of the squad and players than you will ever have yet you seem to think you know better. Kear won 7 games with a scratch team made up mainly of youngsters yet he was bagged for not overloading the team with even more - incredible. Yes I get the point that a few deserved a shot towards the end but then when you have not been offered a new deal yourself you'd be tempted to take the easy option - I would, but unlike most Trin fans I realise things work both ways.

Ray Batten, for whatever reason, was in charge when we appeared to have a really good side with plenty of good rugby and set pieces. Left twice after fall outs with the BOD. I'd give him the vote as the best since the 60's heyday.

Getting om with the BOD is surely one of the things that make a great coach. Taking your ball home everytime it goes against you sounds poor to me. I have no doubt he was a good coach just not suitable for the job at that level it would appear to me. Hope your not Ray icon_cool.gif

Toppo - just to spite you! icon_wink.gif

I honestly still rank him as my favourite coach, but even he would admit that he was here too long.

Toppo understood where the club was in the food chain and, like JK, used all the tricks in the book to get the best squad available and get pretty much the most out of them.

JK can leave with his head held high. He has played his part in our history and achieved more than we deserved based on the resources available. I really hope we see lots of John on the TV over the next few years as I enjoy listening to his views on the game. Thank You John! a014.gif

I prefer Kear TBH but it's close as IMO the life of a Coach is far more pressurised now than then. Toppo never face a million pound game, wasn't even a million pound comp icon_biggrin.gif

I totally get your point regarding the food chain, and over the last few weeks the more I thought about Agar the more i saw the fit. I'm not sure he has Kears charisma or Toppos legendary status as a player but technically he's qualified and he does know RL in the WMDC. Agar could crash and burn but I wouldn't be surprised if he does rather well.
