It would be interesting to know how many of these games he played in the halves.
Sure that it is only since he went out on loan to Castleford, he started playing in the backs.
At only 22-23 still got plenty of time on his side, to make a h/b spot his own, and regarding history, they do say time is a healer.
For me, he would certainly be worth a punt, even if for 2017 it is as cover.'"
Unfortunately he only got a grand total of two starts for us at stand off, one of which was the week after the CC Final when we played the reserves, the other was when George Williams got injured in the warm up.
He was loaned to Cas because he wanted to play 6, and they promptly used him at FB/Wing instead despite injuries to their halves. It's a shame because I was a big fan and thought he would be brilliant for us. I don't feel like he ever got the chance to show what he could do for us at 6, but you do wonder when numerous coaches all decide not to use him as a halfback, can they all be wrong? Hope he goes well for you, he definitely has the talent in him.

Unless it's a situation where coaches knew he was a good player but there was always someone slightly better already in position? And the same might happen for him next year too.
Hope it goes well for him though. And I'm pretty sure he won't be at full back. Pretty long queue already there.

| Quote: TheMightyTrin "I'm happy with this. Young, local lad, Wakefield fan (from what I am led to believe)... it has all the ingredients of a signing you would want. Fingers crossed he can perform when given the opportunity.
I also feel because of the local lad/ wakefield fan connection, fans may be more sympathetic if he doesnt hit the ground running. which will provide him more time to perform and show what he is capable of.
Interestingly, am i right in thinking he came through our youth set up to a point, prior to joining Wigan? does he therefore count as another home grown player Like Kyle Wood does?'"
He was on a 12 month scholarship at Wakey, then went to Hull FC on a 2 year scholarship, then Wigan signed him from Normanton Knights who held his registration at the time. HTH.

| I love it when people who support the Trin become involved with the club, even better when it's a quality player who will strengthen an already impressive squad.
Welcome home Ryan!

| Quote: vastman "I think far to much is made of this. I've met his dad a couple of times and rather like myself he comes across better in the flesh. He certainly had issues with JK but they didn't seem so severe that he'd try to stop his son playing under him. That's assuming he still has that much influence over his now 22 year old son.
I suspect it was a money issue if there is any substance in the stories. I suspect Trinity wanted a one year suck it and see deal whilst Ryan probably wanted a more secure deal over perhaps 2-3 years, Understandable from both parties. Perhaps the JK deaparture has now allowed a compromise to be reached - but it's pure speculation on my part.'"
I don't think that if you had been one of J K's family at the time you would have thought that. It all got very nasty. I too have met both JK AND Rockys' father many times, They are both decent people and hopefully that sort of thing can be left in the past where it belongs as far as Rocky's concerned can't see how he is going to get in without injuries. At full back we are well covered In my opinion with better players, I think his best spot without a doubt is in the halves but at the moment Finn and Milky are far better players. On his side is youth , speed and time. What he needs is someone to give him a long run in the halves. The only way that it will happen is through injuries. Think the lad is fed up of being a bridesmaid . He has the ability in time to be top class

| I see him regularly stood in the North stand at our home games. A cracking signing and hopefully can be a long term successor to Finn.

If there's one half who's made the absolute most out of the talents he was given it's Finn. So I hope some of his smarts and knowledge can be fed into young Ryan and make him the player he wants to be.
Interesting it's just for a year.Just my opinion but I'd have thought he or we'd have liked a 2-year deal, I wonder who's call it was on the length of the contract.
Anyway, welcome Ryan and I hope you finally settle here.

| A real positive feel about this signing. Always remember Nigel Wright showing his best form in a Wakey shirt no matter which other clubs he played for.

| Thinking about it some more, you could draw a lot of similarities between Miller and Ryan. Their style of play is similar, both quick, with a step off each foot & can create off the back of it. In Miller's case, he came over to England as a 21-year-old, with very little first-grade experience & was given the task of being SO at Hull, which is a lot of pressure to take for someone with little experience, under the spotlight of the fans at Hull. While he's been at Trinity, he's grown vastly as a player and become far more well rounded, such as when and when not to take on the line, plus has just generally matured as an RL player
Similarly, Ryan was brought into Wigan's first team at such a young age & found it difficult to really nail down a place because of one reason and another, that's been talked about before. He's then been to Cas, then to Leigh & is still only 22, nearly 23. He could definitely learn a lot from Miller's journey (plus what he's learned already) and how he's developed his style of play.
Anyway long story short, he's got 2 really good guys to learn off .
