| Was it a great performance? Absolutely not.
Was it a professional performance? Absolutely.
The defence was fantastic and there were some cracking plays particularly on the short side which was clearly tactical.
Some of the fringe players showed up really well Yusuf in particular I thought was fantastic.
It clearly wasn’t a perfect performance but when you are struggling and low on confidence you revert to the basics and that is what Chester has done, rebuilding from the defence.
The win tonight pretty much guarantees Trinity SL status next year, which in turn gives us the ability to prepare for next year now in regards recruitment.
I’m normally a glass half empty kind of guy however tonight I’m made up with the result and a professional ugly win.
Clearly I’m, as usual, I’m the minority.

| At no point looked like losing tonight. Wasn’t fantastic flowing rugby but the graft and heart were there. Big win because we’ve lost so many games like over the last few years.

Exactly, I was chuffed that the players stood up and showed plenty of determination , guts and effort in that win last night ,could easily have turned up and gone through the motions which we’ve seen plenty of times with the first team ,but they got stuck in and won a tough game and I’m proud of way they conducted themselves last night

| So just a reminder, we were missing Tupou, Lyne, Kaye, Miller, Tanginoa and Westerman.
Adding to that TJ came off injured and Batch played in the backs and Big Dave is playing with pain killing injections.
They had more out than us, but some of those kids will play international one day and we usually find a game like that really hard.
I was impressed with Pitts and the whole right edge.
Lino was good and probably won us the game chasing down the kick that got us the penalty on the next play.
I thought they'd really attack Senior in the centre. He did OK under the circumstances.

| Quote: Trojan Horse "That’s a bit of a double edged dagger in Chesters back.
The defence has improved but Chester gets no credit and it’s all Last and Poching.
The attack while it wasn’t great did the job. Still it’s all CC fault for and not Last or Poching.....
Chester should take just as much credit for the defence as other coaching members and equally the same applies for attack.
I’m just happy that we have improved in our defence. There’s certainly been improvements since early season performances and hopefully we can kick on now.'"
Correct, it’s why I blew up a bit back. Apparently CC is only responsible for negatives supposedly.
Yet clearly the teams failures are nothing to do with any of the coaching staff. It’s all individual failures as far as I can see.
Last night.
Lino dropped the ball dead in the first 20 mins in a good attacking position as he does every week, is that coaching?
Dave attempt a ludicrous strip and then follows it up with another silly errror.
Arona knock on under no pressure and the list goes on.
I will watch the game again but I reckon we made at least eight unforced errors as opposed to forced errors. Imo a good team should be doing no more than 1-2 of those a game, Max.
It’s not the number of errors but how unforced so many are . We can’t start to really improve until this indiscipline stops, and that is down to the players.
Maybe we Trin fans got spoilt for a few wonderful seasons but I’m now back to the old ways of not trusting the team to get even the basics right.
As I say we’ve fallen a long way in standards in the last few years.
However as I also keep saying, the defence has dramatically improved. If the attack can catch up just a little and we kill the unforced errors then I reckon we could be challenging again.
Of course that according to some will be down to the tea ladies rather than CC.

| Quote: homme vaste "Well apologies for the doom and gloom post but I`ve got to say, I can`t ever remember walking away from the ground having won feeling disappointed...
Wigan should never have been in that game in a million years and yet we gave them chance after chance.
Granted we were missing a few tonight, and I could forgive somethings on attack not coming off or the odd error, but we played absolutely clueless rugby tonight and relied on a few strokes of luck to get us over the line in the end.
Anyway 2 points is 2 points and that's just about the only positive for me tonight.
Keeping my fingers crossed that TJs injury isn`t anything serious.'"
You need to get out more HV.
Personally, I was chuffed to bits about beating Wigan, even if both sides were missing a number of players and especially with the adversity with injuries that we both took into the game and copped on the night.
Our defence was excellent all night and whilst there were mistakes (both sides), what on earth did you expect ??
There are some right miserable buggers on here these days and any win against Wigan is a good win.
Big raps for Jowitt, who was faultless, Kershaw who didn't put a foot wrong and Fifita for leading the pack.
Was it the greatest game of RL, not by a mile.
Can we (and Wigan) play better, of course we can.
It's job done and move on to the next game.
To concede just 6 points and they were on the back of penalties and restarts from the man in the middle, was a great defensive effort.
I think that you are being massively unfair on the team and the coaching staff.

The 2nd half break from Arundel down the short side was fantastic to watch. Also the break from Johnstone, backed up by Rocky for his try was worth the admission fee.
Yes we made mistakes and it wasn't the best game of rugby we've ever played but once again we defended multiple sets on our line on several occasions without conceding and that shows some real determination and spirit.
Clearly we have some disgruntled fans on here that see Chester getting a new contract and want to pick up on any negatives they can to convince everyone it's the wrong decision.

I'm only half with you on this.
Sorry but even with missing players that Wigan team was begging to be thrashed yet somehow we contrived to allow them to make a game of it. Ditto, Cas last week, that was the most beatable Cas team I've seen in years yet we totally lost the plot. You can't seriously be happy with these performances?
The result last night, on the other hand, I am delighted with but if we play like that too often it might be the last one we see for a while.
Recognising issues doesn't automatically make you a moaner, in my book you are only a moaner if you seem to ne revelling in it.

That was without question the high point in the last few moth, the improvement is astonishing and is the factor that is winning us games.
It's also vital as IMHO defence is the basis of a good team. What annoys me is not that we don't have a Saints style attack but that we make so many basic errors that force us to defend even harder than we need to and thus robs us of the energy to attack more effectively.
As for CC getting a contract, I'm ok with that, he's still one of the better options unless Powell decides he'd rather coach us than Warrington.

Happy with the performance ? not entirely but, our defence was excellent and tbf, I expected us to lose (narrowly) last night so, walking out of the ground with a win, no matter how well we played, is a huge plus.
The one thing for sure is that, after the last year or so, I'm chuffed to have a club to support (in person) and that we are at least picking up some wins.
I can make a list of things that weren't great last night, many of which you mentioned in your post but, for a club like ours to have players like Tupou out injured, to be "stripped of 4 players, when some clubs seem to have refused to let their players take part in the game tonight, pick up injuries to Crowther and more seriously, Johnstone in the game and have Fifita playing with pain killers, any win is a good win, faults and all.
One thing that really surprised me was not setting up for a DG, when we were 12 points up and when the lead was cut to 6.
OK we managed to get a penalty but, a one pointer should have been straight forward enough and would have relieved some pressure..
Anyway, 2 points and on to next week.
