I thought that "match winner" was the reason we got Trueman. that certainly was his role at Cas, and it worked. I suppose these added years may have diminished that role somewhat.
So you think it was Trueman at fault for our defeat according to your comment wow.

| I may be stating the bl**ding obvious, but the reason Saints,Leigh and Hull KR keep beating us is down to a level of intensity we don't seem able to match.

Personally I would not include Leigh with your other 2 picks as I thought we were unlucky on both occasions we lost to them, but for someone to blame an individual for a poor team performance is really shabby, even Trueman's number 1 critic doesn't seem to be blaming him for our poor showing on Friday.

There were individual errors which led to tries, Lino jumping out of the line for the first, Hall turning his back on the high ball for the second, Myers not kicking the ball dead for the forth and Jowitt's dropped ball for the fifth, but it was a collective no show.

| Historically sides have regularly struggled to beat other sides.Wakey went into this game bang in form but were blown away by the Saints. Isn't that 3 losses against them this season? I still think you'll finish 6th though as Hull FC have a very tough run in

| Saints beat us on line speed, aggression, wrestling and PTB speed. Added to that, the ball bounced their way a few times, everything stuck for them the first 20 minutes, and the game was over. When you're that fatigued, mistakes do creep in. But there's no way I could pin that kind of loss on individual players. They were just a lot better than us.
It does obviously beg the questions as to how Hull, Leeds, and Warrington (three times) beat them. I would have thought our coaching staff would have picked those games apart to see how you can take advantage of Saints' style. Because it's clear that their style just completely nullifies ours - sometimes that happens in sport. We rely on getting our halves in plenty of space, that's how we beat Wigan. We rely on giving the likes of Faatili, Uele and Storton earlier ball so they can get motoring and moving, rather than a late 2s play for example - that's how we battered Huddersfield. Saints just don't let us do that. So where's the space? Where do Warrington pick them apart?

Saints fan here. I've been browsing this thread after our game. I was there on Friday and full marks for the ground improvements, some good pre-match entertainment and food and drink options too. Makes our effort look pitiful although that's for another conversation. Just a quick one though to say that Hull haven't beaten us this season and we have played Leeds four times. They have only beaten us once and that was at Magic when we were at an all-time low and there was real pressure on Wellens being sacked. I can't believe that Warrington have beaten us three times however especially the last game. We can't beat Leigh, HKR, Wigan or Warrington at the moment. They are our Achilles heel.

| I do agree that Saints beat us on line speed, aggression, wrestling and PTB speed. However, our distribution from the play of the ball was so slow and inaccurate.
The amount of times our runners had to stop and catch the ball above their heads and down by their knees. It destroyed any momentum our forwards had and allowed Saints to dominate us. Consequently, our half backs had less time on the ball. One of Hood's worst performances this year.

Hood has been struggling for a month or so now imo. His early season form which was great we haven’t seen. I suspect he may be carrying an injury. When Smith was on the pitch for his 25/30 minute spell we almost matched saints in a spell for the second half. I am sure Hood will regather his form for the run in. Smith I would start though, we look better with him starting and he’s a real talent. For Salford I’d actually start Smith and have Russell bench at 9.

Yes that was very noticeable, commented at the time that the little time we had was impacted by the poor distribution from dummy half. As I said a collective off day, and one synonyms after a (well deserved) mid season break.

Ah fair point - I thought they'd pipped you but it was the other way round. In that case, how did they push you so close? How did Leigh or Wire beat you? What did they do to counter Knowles, Delaney, Lees et al flying out like that? Basically how can we beat you in the first week of playoffs
