| Quote Duckman="Duckman"Whilst not being as obviously anti BJ as Terry, its not a coincedence that our return to form happened at the same time as Sykes took over at 6 from Ben. His try assists stat is also slightly misleading. He did well for sections of some games and often has made the last pass or put in the grubber, but his defence is awful and his attacking contribution goes awol all to often and he's not put in a complete 80 min performance all season IMHO. For every try assist there was a couple of crucial errors.
Too inconsistant for me at 6 (sound familar? almost word for word what you guys said when we signed him from you!)
Having said all that, he's been a good squad player for us overall and I wish him well at your place next season. And its a good bet that Kear might well get more out of him than McNamara has managed. You look to be putting together a decent squad for next year and you should be looking to challenge higher up the table if it all goes well.'"
A fair assessment and one which every Trinity fan will identify with.
He has the ability, but if we see it more then 10 times a season it will be an improvement over previous years. I think as a HB partner for Brough he would be ideal, he isn’t a play maker as such but is a very useful support player and I think the lack of a ‘domineering’ playing trait will suit Brough’s game and not counteract it as we saw at times with Drew. He is a known quantity to the club and has the potential to be a prolific scorer, as long as no one is expecting any significant improvement to what we’ve all seen since he’s been in SL then I think he will do just fine.
Not overjoyed by the signing by any means and not unhappy ether.

I agree, BJ with Brough looks a much better fit than with Deacon IMO. It might also matter which defensive unit he lines up with, as we all too often had him next to Sykes and Sheriffe, so we had 3 players stood next to each other, none of whom can tackle Get him some tackling help next to him in the line, let Brough create and Jeffries finish, dont expect anything new in his game and he'll go well enough for you I reckon.

| Can't say I was thrilled when it was first rumoured, but I can at least see something in the argument that it may suit him in a partnership with Brough, who will clearly wear the trousers in that one. Similarly, I can see Brough and Newton being more complimentary than it was between Brough and Drew.
On top of that, it would take a serious reversal of our fortunes for me to not have faith in Kear's planning.

The same argument for partnering Brough with BJ could be (and was) applied to partnering Brough with Rooney. I don't really see the gain in (effectively) replacing Rooney with Jeffries.

I'm not disagreeing with you monty, I'm trying to sell it to myself. If it makes a difference with BJ, his erratic form came every 4-5 games, weather permitting, where as Rooney's were longer periods of form interspersed with longer periods of injury and loss of form inbetween.

I agree with that.
The reason BJ was not so great before was because he was too similar to Rooney. He isn't an organising scrum half.
Partnered with Brough I think he could be really good.....but I thought Rooney was starting to look the same when he came back from injury.
Both will work well with Brough. Not quite Gregory and Edwards but the theme is the same

I see what you're saying, I think Ben will be a good support player whilst Brough gets us around the field.
Still would have prefered Grix there though.

Aggree 100% , for what it's worth . A season playing next to D.B and we could of had a cracking player for years at half back - or made a good few bob in the transfer market

| I do trust in JK's judgement but (unusually) I'm certainly not excited at the thought of a repeat BJ!!! I appreciate that not every signing is going to take my breath away as it is a squad we are building BUT when he last donned the sacred jersey I did have concerns about Ben's defeatist and down beat body language on the field...and his kicks to touch from penalties were truly appalling. Going to trust JK but its one of the less convincing bits of transfer activity over the last few weeks...

| Well yes ... Can't argue at all .. JK has got lots more things right than wrong and look at us now compared to when he took over !
Just think that a player who he picked as his player or young player - sorry can't remember -of the year last season , he's letting go 12 months later . Feel sorry for Grix as he's been out of position stuck on the wing all season and he's copped a load of flak for it. I just think he's worth another 2 year contract and play him in the halfs - but then again that's just me ... John knows best !

Thinking about it, the best way to look at it isn't as Jeffries replacing Rooney. For whatever reason Rooney was allowed to go to without any replacement being available (still don't know what that reason was but his leaving hasn't had a detrimental effect so far). So, in the absence of a Stand Off, Jeffries isn't a bad signing, he certainly has the ability to be a top half back and to work well with Brough.
