| Quote: SmokeyTA "Even in the ‘million pound game’ season’ where the gods conspired to create a nigh on perfect storm of two near neighbours in the heartlands playing each other in the final game with the winner staying up, a situation that is about as good as relegation can provide, Bar that one game, attendances were uniformly awful. Crowds may go to one or two relegation deciders, but they don’t attend the rest of the year. The lower SL teams didn’t grow by being in a relegation battle, they fell.'"
Regardless of whether or not the crowds present at the games themselves increase , Superleague is primarily a TV Show on sky sports.
At the moment it is a tv show with no plot, nobody really cares who finishes top of the league or bottom of it because it really counts for very little. Promotion and relegation creates interest in the game and actually gives some purpose to the regular season.
At the moment sky seem to have to rely on stevo and eddy constantly reminding people what a "great product" the game is. I don't hear the same things being said in other sports.
The competition itself should be the great product but unfortunately it is little more than a roadshow of exhibition games.

Should Toulouse be invited in, if they have the backing that many posters on the VT talk about ?'"
Why should the game try to expand? It's been trying to expand for over 100 years and failed. I would suggest we should concentrate on making the competition stronger in the heartlands and forget it. If it is ever to expand, then satellites 100's of miles away is not the way. Geographical stepping stones...like the one we had at Sheffield and wrecked with the Shudds merger. You could then have tried for a dDerbyshire team and so on...still don't think it would work though. Kick and clap is just too well established. Plus if expansion means shafting clubs like us, you can keep it.

| Quote: SmokeyTA "Do you go outside everyday preparing for pasta to rain down from the Sky? Do you check under the bed for Lions? Do you worry that sometimes your car might change in to a hippopotamus? Do you suddenly stop mid-step just in case a T-Rex has come back from the dead? Do you check that your television hasn’t turned in to cheese? Or that water has suddenly developed the ability to talk? Have you prepared an escape plan for the possibility that one day the floor may actually be made of lava?
Or do you feel comfortable that on the basis that because these things have never happened before, they aren’t likely to happen any time soon? Or do you not learn from experience?
If clubs were in the top league purely on merit we wouldn’t have a salary cap (disadvantaging some clubs to benefit others) or a quota (massively advantages a heartland club with a thriving amateur game on its doorstep compared to an expansion club which is building one) If we get rid of these things, the first club to go pop probably wont be the one in a major city with a wealthy benefactor.'"
Do you assume that because nobody has ever jumped further than 8.95m that it will never happen?
Do you assume that because nobody has ever jumped higher than 2.43m that nobody ever will?
Do you ever check that just because you've always talked rubbish that one day you might not?
The things you suggest are as you say impossible but that doesn't mean that everything that hasn't yet happened is impossible.
One day you might not cause everyone to bang their heads against a brick wall when reading some of your drivel. I won't hold my breath but it might just happen.

One day you might learn the difference between very unlikely and impossible, one day you may learn to read, one day this board may actually fill its entire front page with comments from people about RL made that day, one day the mods of it may make a comment about RL, one day this board may be popular. As this has yet to happen, the same as some one jumping 9 metres, or 3 metres high, ill assume it is unlikely to happen in the near future and even less likely to be a common occurrenc, you keep checking under the bed for lions.

Bore off smokey.
We have a lot of RL discussions on this forum. We'd just rather not have them with you.

Thanks, I think you've really helped me make the distinction.
I thought it was just highly unlikely that you would ever stop talking cr@p, now I realise it's impossible.
Thanks for contributing but now you can go back to your hole on the VT where the rest of the muppets look up to you.

One day you might actually post something that means something rather than drivel to try and get a reaction
There is a massive difference between impossible and improbable, but to work that out you would need a dictionary and for that to be successful it would also require you to acquire the ability to read
The best way for RL to expand is from the homelands, not 200-300-1000 miles jumps, Nottingham or NE would be the next logical step not Essex/Middlesex or Kent

Although there is nothing wrong with your sentiments, if the game doesn't try and sell itself to a wider audience it will contract and may struggle to attract decent level sponsorship, which to some extent, is the case just now.
Where do you think new fans will come from if we don't expand the game ?
Plus if we want to strengthen the international game, there needs to be something in place to help the French.

| Not wishing to provoke Smokey again but, IF SL is cut to 12 teams will the RFL go with clubs backed by a "sugar daddy" or will their be other criteria ie attendance, community work, facilities, finance etc.
The current 2 weakest teams are London and Salford but they both have wealthy backers.
Bearing in mind that the decision will be made in the early part of next season ? how much will change for these 2 clubs and where does this leave the likes of Cas, Widnes, KR and ourselves.
It seems that the rugby league world cant get enough of Dr K and you get the feeling that Salford will be bomb proof for the foreseeable future.
