Would the income from conference/marketing facilities go into the Clubs coffers or go to the stadium trust to run the stadium even staying at BV it would become a community stadium so would go to the latter. Each option has its pros and cons BV easy access via Train (stations at Westgate,Kirkgate and Sandal/Agbrigg) easy access by Bus route and not far from city centre, down side is car access and parking.Newmarket Trains nil Bus service poor even during the week let alone Sundays Car could not be any better. The one advantage with BV is the walk up fan few lads down town Sunday dinner nice day hey lets have a walk down BV they are playing so and so and that walk up would dwindle at Newmarket.Been mentioned about a car park off montague street so parking would get better at BV.Me personally I don't us car as like a couple of pints and being in Outwood not much difference traveling wise but prefer BV.

I've voted BM.

Like SC I am attached to BV through emotion, but NM offers a great chance to start afresh and build a new stadium, with all the modern needs, including great circulation around the facility, whilst continuing to okay at BV until the day we move.

Add to that the revenue potential for meetings and conferences, in such an ideal position, and financially it makes by far more sense than staying at BV, IMO.

As for the deal, in theory at least, the stadium would be owned by the a Trust, but the operation would be the club, so these revenue streams would come back to the club, not the a Trust. The Trust will only need a minimal revenue to cover some admin/legal charges plus anything, under the current model, borrowed.

There are so many things up in the air just now though that we really and truly don't know how it's all going to pan out!

What does annoy me is the attitude of the RL 'I'm all right Jacks' who luckily for them have had a more sympathetic local authority or have been able to become 'bedfellows with a football club. Or both!
They point their fingers at Wakefield claiming no attempt has really been made to have a new ground. Some really believe that!
Looking back, how many other clubs have started out optimistically on new ground ventures, only to have the 'rug pulled from under their feet'?
Thus a couple of new stands at Belle Vue and renovation of entrance and surrounds would do for me to begin with as that does appear to be now more achievable.

Quote: Two Points "[sizeSeems to be quite a bit of rubbish being spoken on here about which location is best,[/size by both sides. For me personally Newmarket would win hands down. I could walk there from my home. The facilities originally described there are unlikely to ever be provided at Belle Vue there simply isn't the space. If you are a fan with a car it's very easy to get to along Aberford Road or along Leeds Road and then down through Patrick Green. For an away fan travelling by car it would be fantastic to get to straight off the M62. What the parking arrangements would be like I don't know but could it really be worse than Belle Vue?

If you don't have a car there are currently only two bus services an hour that go near Newmarket to/from Wakefield and one which runs infrequently from Rothwell to Castleford which passes the location. It has been accepted that the bus service would have to be improved if the stadium is built.

The distance by car is shown on Google as 4.5 miles from the Bull Ring taking 11 minutes. Walking comes up with 4.2 miles.

As for Belle Vue, having been going there since 1960 I would miss the place but what worries me is that very little redevelopment would actually take place and income would stagnate. So for me it has to be Newmarket if we ever want to grow this once great club of ours.'"

In your opinion which clearly must be the only one in your opinion icon_rolleyes.gif

Quote: bren2k "I'd rather have a new stadium, hands down; even with a refurb of BV, we'll never shake off our small time image, nor will we escape the infrastructure problems that currently hamper us - parking, facilities, access, additional revenue streams etc etc.

That ship appears to have been hijacked by Colin Mackie however, so I guess we'll take whatever consolation prize is on offer.'"

For me that is the only problem with BV - that and the jack booted planning bods we'd have to get everything past.

It would be my biggest worry if we got funding that getting over all the planning hurdles would take years thus negating the very reason for opting for BV in the first place. God it's difficult this stadium stuff. icon_sad.gif

For me my heart would say redevelop Belle Vue.

After seeing how Widnes' ground has been transformed from what it was like in the 1980s and also being in the middle of a residential area would make it comparable for me.

Whilst I sense some people on here prefer NM because it is closer to their home (?) I like the idea of our stadium being in a central location and closer for the overwhelming majority. You see many fans walk a fair distance to the ground, even from the top of Westgate and beyond.

Also I think, whilst we are heavily criticised (I think wrongly) for our current lack of parking I suspect as a driver the parking situation now is much more favourable. I detest the concept of paid parking and with Newmarket I suspect that would be the only option. There are unlikely to a significant range of off site parking options with limited roads. The idea of park and ride doesn't really appeal when I have a long journey to get there and one accident in front of me could delay me significantly.

I'd also fear we'd end up with all the problems Salford have at their new ground.

My situation is that I drive c. 1 hour each way for each home match. I come from East Yorkshire and actually leave the M62 at the Rothwell turn off. So whilst on my current route Newmarket is a lot closer I'd prefer Belle Vue. I also wonder how much of a relief the slip roads and roundabout from the M62 would really be with a large visiting support.

Also, my heart is with Belle Vue. I'd like to keep the connection and history.

With the right planning and funding I don't see why BV can't be transformed into this dream facility for commercial/hospitality income people claim only NM can provide. With the land out to the Super Bowl we could effectively re-build the whole place from scratch. The only thing to remain would be the pitch.

Can't see planning been a problem the old west stand was the highest stand at belle Vue albeit not full length no doubt it will be an interesting few months just like it's been an interesting and frustrating 30years on the stadium front.

A good sports stadium brings pride to the City/town it built in. As well as providing a purpose it lifts the whole area and is something people are proud of. At the moment Belle Vue does the opposite and is barely fit for purpose. I'm abit of a stadium geek and have visited loads of football/RL stadiums over the years when visiting places home or abroad I always check out the local stadia and it frustrates me that my home City's stadium is the worse. One day I hope us and future generations can have the use of fit for purpose modern stadium facilities in the City of Wakefield.

Vastman. I was just trying to correct some of the the statements about both options, such as no pavements on Aberford Road etc
