| Quote: Slugger McBatt "People need to get a grip!
A well-run club with an ability to increase income is going to get relegated. It's happened to other clubs. Now, it's our turn. Like it happened to Leigh. Look at them now!
It's how we cope with it that counts, and I think we'll do okay.
Maybe what's been missing is a lack of imagination in terms of how to increase money, or a willingness to take risks, but Glover was full of that hot air too.
Applegarth has turned out to be a bad move. However, from the outside last year, it did seem like he had a part in the uplift last year. Turns out it was a false dawn and they have to get someone new in.
But I'd rather be relegated with Minards in charge than whoever might replace him. But it often seems like the criticism of Carter is about personal vendettas rather than an objective view of how he has managed the club. He can only put together what finances will allow, with players who are willing to sign up for never winning anything in poor surroundings.
For me, the villains are Yorkcourt. We should be way ahead of where we are now in relation to the ground, years ahead, and if you live life by dodging bullets, eventually you get hit by one.
And for the record, I don't know MC, have never met him, and have no connection with him. I just prefer stability to bankruptcy.'"
Wholeheartedly agree.
After the disappointment of Cas and then Leigh fans are obviously looking for someone (or everyone) to blame.
The thing is Minnards has been outstanding in getting the off field improvements done. Carter is leaving his role as CEO but has completely rescued the club in the past. Mash is clearly a talent (though possibly not head coach but I'm not fully convinced of that)
To just burn the house down in a rage doesn't help anyone.
There is still plenty of opportunity to fix this in terms of number of games but right now, this team can't do it.
I think the best thing Carter can do is use his skills to negotiate a fee with Atoni and use the money for one of the stand offs in France for a short term rescue contract.

| Quote: Kettykat "So the 17 professional paid players who capitulated so badly yesterday carry no responsibility, and it was Minards n Carter dropping off tackles and walking taking the ball up ,and clueless in every other facets of the game ..right ,give it a rest , suppose they told lynne to walk around aimlessly all game and put no effort in going forwards or Kershaw to keep coming in off his wing so Charley could look like a world beater .Eastmoor dragons would have put a better performance in than that shower of gutless wonders . But let’s bag the board it’s far easier than calling the players out for that sh-t show .'"
The bottom line is that the 17 players selected and the game plan they were "following" didn't work and they weren't good enough to secure a win (or register a point).
Of those 17, not one of them would get a starting spot in any other SL club and this tells you everything you need to know.
Quite simply, we cannot afford ant SL quality players (Murphy and Tangianoa aside).
The performance of our overseas contingent is bloody embarrassing and you have to assume that they are busted.
After watching through thin and thinner for over 40 years, we are fast becoming an embarrassment. It's heart-breaking
Turning up at games, already knowing that we wont win and probably wont register a point is no longer worth the effort..

| Your fans deserve all they get for the way you hounded out Chris Chester, a man doing a very decent job at the time.
Since you got your way and he went your club has sunk like a stone, which just goes to show what Wakey fans actually know.
You piled pressure on the club to get rid because you thought your club was something it wasn't and too good for Chester, you finally got your way and now relegation looms.
Wakefield fans have therefore played a massive roll in the club's current demise.

| The fact remains that the players we put out on the pitch yesterday have very little chance, if any, of beating any other team in the comp. That is the 1st thing we need to see change. For starters, Atoni needs putting away in the same box that Lineham has been shipped off to, both offer negative input on the pitch.
On a different note: Will people stop using the word invest. Its a sugar daddy we need who just wants a bit of kudos.

Yes great post, but you failed to explain that if you are short of money why would you recklessly waste what little you have.

| Quote: Belle Vue "I don’t think we’ve always got our overseas recruitment wrong..Fifita Arona tupou more recent players who have served the club well. And chucking money at billy big bucks from Australia doesn’t guarantee you a higher league position (as wire fans about that)
I don’t disagree with you regarding this season’s players, the overseas recruiting has been poor and we’re not getting value out of them. Coupled with some English based players it’s left us struggling to compete..
The single biggest problem we have faced in my opinion was the reduction in sky money( half million I think) this problem has tipped us over the edge. With no funds to make up the shortfall and the poor recruitment we now see that filtering out onto the field.
I think the the club have been on the lookout for investment.. but who in their right mind was ever going to invest in a club who’s ground looked like it had taken incoming shelling adding the fact that we didn’t own it and then the ongoing debt issues.. these are all problems that have been addressed (not completely but addressed)
Unfortunately a backer has not been forthcoming but you can’t say to the board…. Well you will have to stump up some more money… they may either not want to or doesn’t have the fund to..
But …. And think this is probably the most important thing now. the above is being addressed, it makes us more attractive should someone be interested in investing . Should we drop into the championship ( which at the moment I think is very likely ) we will have a chance to fight our way back up..
We could have thrown a lot of money we didn’t have to try and elevate the situation with no guarantee it would pay off …. Then end up still being relegated ….. and starting in The championship in debt and rudderless (ask Bradford bulls fans about that!)
Everyone who posts on here mate wants the best for our club .
I’m gutted this morning as I’m sure all others will be..
We just have different opinions on how our problems should be addressed..
All I would say is keep supporting the club even if you don’t agree about how it’s being run..'"
A well thought out response BV.....and I am being genuine when I say that!

Some maybe vendetta's but as time goes on, there are more and more, as someone who has saved the club, he has a lot of vendettas against him, you do start to wonder
I have always tried to be as constructive as I can, whilst being critical. If people look back, I have in the past praised his efforts. He was what we needed in 2013, but in reality, I think he should have only been a short term fix.
People use the word respect a lot in life, but I was brought up with the morals that respect is a two way street, and it needs earning, but can also be lost.
He has verbally lashed out in the past on social media, and on here, myself included, and then to have another dig in front of other fans in Perpignan, back in 2019.
Sadly from that day on, he lost all the respect I had for him.

Whereas, fans can say what they like?
Can't have it both ways.

| Yes but we are the customers, how many business owners look to alienate their patrons. I am sure you remember what happened to the moderator who no longer attends game over a bottle of pop and the attitude of the club.

| It's ok comparing us to other teams that have been relegated in the past such as leigh and how well they are doing now but the difference is as I understand it there will be no promotion at the end of next season. So we will be down and no way back. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Hi Cris
we sacked Chester because he won something like 2 in 18 games, his time was up

Agree tbh, maybe with the exception of Minnards who has actually managed to make progress on the ground.
The squad Carter has put together this season is unacceptable really. Proctor and Atoni offer less than nothing, Dagger is poor (and we lost our only exciting young player to gt him in), Smith also contributes nothing. Langi the only signing who has looked semi-useful. Yes the central funding has been cut and it effected us massively, but I find it hard to believe with our budget a better squad could not have been put together. Having less funding just makes the recruitment/retention mistakes more impactful. A well run club would not be crying poverty one minute and offering Proctor a lucrative deal the next.
On Proctor btw it was genuinely sad to see the crowd turn on him yesterday. I think he tries, his body just can't play rugby anymore. Atoni on the otherhand..
Mash and Ford I felt sorry for initially, and still do to an extent for the squad they are working with. That said, even with poor players we could look well coached, and we don't. We don't have an attacking structure at all really, and our end of sets when on the opponents line are pathetic - it really does make you wonder what they work on through the week? Its also baffling as to why Proctor and Atoni are still getting picked, neither look useful or capable of playing many minutes, yet we have Eseh not making the squad. Butler offered more

| Salford don't have a rich owner or big crowds but always see to put a decent squad together. That's because they have people the club who can spot a good player and do the research rather than just watch a highlights reel. Look at the highlights reels of Tafua and Atoni and they look world beaters!

No doubt they get some gems from the NRL and are getting a lot out of players previously written off (sounds familiar in years gone by) but there are good reasons as to how they have the squad they have when they don't have rich backers. 1, no academy, 2, don't pay the full rent due on the stadium and 3 have just asked for a £350k loan to cover operational costs.
There is probably £500k right there, enabling them to secure Broady Croft for 8 years.
Salford are a great team, and are great to watch, but as a club they are teetering on the edge.
