It goes much further than that.
Typically, they are in at 7am...do their S&C programme...have breakfast provided...do formal classes (Sports Science/Sports Performance)...followed by training at BV on the evening.
They are basically in a FT environment and given every chance to make the leap to the pro game.
Applegarth is the next James Ford IMO. He'll be a Head Coach...assuming he wants that.

I think the two things are linked.
It's good for everyone - players get the best chance at being pro - those missing out get an employable background qual.
It's definitely been productive for Wakefield. It's no coincidence that other colleges/clubs are copying the model.
Wakefield College was the FIRST college to have a Rugby League Development Centre (College Academy).

Vastman it is a league wakefield are in the premier division and yes it may not be wakefield trinity as such but it is a good insight into the future as stated already batch came from collage as did titus gwaze and players like yusuf played many a collage too.it is quite a competitive league.
John i believe one of you lads from the past season maybe playing'"
Yes Big Tom.
It’s ideal for someone like him who is a relative newcomer to the game, only really player 1.5 seasons of rugby in his life due to Covid as he came to the sport late and whilst I used him as a centre he is being given a role in the forwards in the secondrow and at Prop.
It’s a great pathway for late developers and late comers to the game.
It also helps to attract lads to Wakefield College so it works both ways benefiting the College and the Club.
Tom was heading to Notre Dame in Leeds before being given the nod that Mash wanted to look at him further in that system.

Thanks for the nod and I know I'm prissy but I just can't watch phone footage, gives me motion sickness.
I'm going to make an offer here, I'm a bit of an amateur home movie maker (not those types!) I'd be happy to come to the home games and film them properly on HD and edit them, do you think they might be interested? It's something I've fancied doing for a while now.

Who do I ask.
Might sound a bit sentimental for me but apart from the obvious benefits of a reasonably well-shot video for training purposes it's a great moment.
Most of these lads won't make it but it would be nice in years to come if they can summon up well-produced game videos featuring themselves on youtube to show their own kids, it's a small reward for the commitment they show.

Connor Grace would be your best bet. If you can message the club Facebook account I think he’s usually the one who gets back to you.

| Quote: dboy "Just for fun - players who have come through the Wakefield College Development Centre, include (without necessarily claiming credit for the outcome); Annakin, Ferguson, Croft, Aydin, Batchelor, Hardaker, Massey, Dawson-Smith, Griffin (Josh), Harry Carter (York)...there's loads over the years.
The Wakefield College team is the most successful college set up of the last 15 years - no other college team gets near.
The first coach was Pete Riding...followed by Mick Bamford, James Ford and Mark Applegarth.
I feel like I have posted this before, so apologies if so.'"
I remember playing for Wakefield College in the mid 80s and in 1984 we won the University & Colleges cup with Don Metcalfe as coach...a bit before Pete Riding's time altho Welly played a few games around that time tooicon_smile.gif
