I saw ELO at a Heart Beat '86 charity event in Birmingham that also include The Moody Blues, Roy Wood & Wizzard, Robert Plant, some of UB40 (that was time to go for food) and many more. It might have been the last 'proper' ELO gig before they reformed years later. George Harrison played too as a stand in Brummie. The Move were going to reform that day but Carl Wayne was busy elsewhere.

| Be nice if they could turn the old ABC into a live music venue like they’ve done at the picturedrome in holmfirth .lots of the old bands are still doing the rounds and still got it, these old cinemas are perfect with the sloping floors for those that are vertically challenged to get a decent view as well .

Wasn’t that what they tried to do with unity hall?
Might work but parking may be the big issue.
Also not sure how many it holds. There are quite literally dozens of 10,000 plus arenas around these days and pubs for the start up bands. Not sure there is a market for it tbh.
I have fond memories of the ABC but truth is it’s nothing special and imo needs knocking down. I’m all for heritage but we have that in the Theatre on Westgate.

The real ELO had that effect on me.

One of the sons of the Bushmen, Costello I think had a band that played at the Wakefield Arms in the early eighties, the Zillionairs I think they called themselves.
They were pretty good. One night there drummer was sick and I covered for him, great fun. Anyone remember them?

Not sure. I remember that the tribute frontman looked like Les Battersby.
