The plans to upgrade the floodlights got me thinking as to when the 4 pylons for the existing lights were erected. I was surprised to find they were put up in 1992 to replace the 8 pylons ( 4 either side ) which were fitted in 1967. Remember the opening of the lights in 1967, Yorkshire v Australia when big Neil played a blinder to turn the Aussies over.

I dont post very much on here these days. I have been very close to all the various schemes and plans over many years regarding the stadium. Some were obvious fakes from the out set, while others seemed genuine only to fail to come to fruition. As a result I am very cynical these days, but I do feel there is something very positive about this latest scheme. OK it may not be all we expected, but is probably enough to satisfy all the stadium criteria and ensure the clubs long term future.

Why am I a bit more optimistic ? Simple, this is the first real scheme that Peter Box has not been in power to manipulate the outcome. If this happens then you can draw your own conclusions as to the true reason there has been so many past failures.

As you know PB, once Thornes failed I argued that BV was the only way forward. I didn’t buy NM and I don’t think you did either, it stank of Peter Box but tbf on all involved it was worth pursuing.

However once NM failed I feel we should have gone all out for BV, the all for a nee development simply wasn’t there. Never was, heck it wasn’t even there for Cas.

It’s tragic we lost so much time chasing a dream. It was tragic that we took that swines advise and didn’t buy BV when it was up for a song. We’ve lost 5 years and are a million plus out of pocket.

Still like you I feel it is at last moving after 16 long years. It wouldn’t have happened at all had the fans not rallied around the SWAG cause. Ultimately fan power and an honest club leadership may finally have prevailed. Shame it took so much time, sweat and tears.

That night and the Championship final replay at Swinton are the 2 best experiences in my entire 55+ years following Trinity.
Fingers crossed for the stadium revamp - it’s what the club, the supporters and the City need and deserve.

Those 2 matches stick out in my mind too after watching Trinity since 1960. The Yorkshire v Australia match was incredible. Supposed to be meeting my mate at scoreboard end. Never did find him in the 19,000 plus crowd I think it was. Went to that Replay at Swinton against Saints. Happy days.

Quote: Eastern Wildcat "After several failed plans, fingers crossed that this goes ahead. The plans do look good though.

I’m a bit cautious though in reading this, as Yorkourt’s name has been mentioned.

Hopefully, this is phase one, with East and North Stand in these plans, with further phase(s) for South and West. It wouldn’t look right, just two sides being revamped.

Having sat in offices in the Benidorm flats, I disagree. On a cold day, they are very cold and cheerless. I’m sure MC said the same about the warmth in them a while back. They have, or did have electric storage heaters, which weren’t very energy efficient.

Not sure on the 4G pitch though, given the quality on our playing surface, unless maybe there is the possibility of maybe one of our local football sides moving in too.'"

The ladies football team, retweeted the tweet and stated it was womens superleague standard, so I guess they will be playing there

I too went to the Championship final at Swinton as did 34,000 others. Left home at 3.30pm to catch one of the many supporters buses. A fantastic evening ending with Harold lifting the trophy and finally getting home at 2.30 am. No M62 in those days but a night that those who were there will never forget, and as a bonus I won 10 bob on the sweep with Ray Owen scoring the first try.

Love the pics....
Looks really good...
But surely they could have taken them when there wasn't snow on the pitch or on the new car park.

I never thought of them to be honest.

I was thinking more Ossett United or Wakefield AFC. On Wakefield AFC page, they have a plan to get them in the 4th tier of English football by 2032, and I think Ossett have a similar plan. I also believe MC has links with the Ossett club and it’s management.

Has any else on here contacted their local councillors yet? I’ve just emailed the Horbury/South Ossett three, asking them to support the Wakefield trinity application, and also support the Enabling Development, which we are relying on for considerable funding of the stadium redevelopment. I received a positive reply within minutes from councillor Byford.
Does anyone know the dates for the planning meeting. I doubt the public will be admitted, due to Covid restrictions.

John Minards mentioned in his stadium statement, a “Fan Zone” to be created behind the new East Stand. Can someone explain to me what a Fan Zone is. I’ve looked it up and it’s defined as

“ A fan zone is the name for an area or public space which has been designed for fans without tickets, allowing them to come together and still feel part of the action.

The concept has really taken off over the past decade. Often created close to the actual ‘field of play’, fan zones are created at all manner of sporting venues. Usually open up hours before the main event gets underway and often remaining open following the final whistle.

They are also known as fan villages and community extension areas in some places.”

Is this a posh name for a beer and burger bar?

It’s normally where they put promotions on mainly for kids to join in, a bit of sponsorship displays and so on to accommodate supporters before the game, works well at some football games and the Magic weekends at Newcastle. Don’t worry DS you don’t have to bye anything if you don’t want to, just your usual pie and peas icon_thumb.gif

They have a Fanzone at Oakwell in the carpark behind the East Stand, which mainly consists of a makeshift bar seating area and stage to allow prematch meetings for a pint. a chat and a bit of music prior to k.o.. It's very popular with kids when the weather's agreeable. Could be quite a money spinner for WT.
