Sure it was filmed in 1963 because I was in my final year at secondary school and I left in 1963. We pupils were invited to appear in the crowd as extras and would be rewarded with an apple and a pork pie for our trouble.

I'm going to say earlier, because Richard Harris turned up at the 1962 final and spoke to the players in the dressing room, so it must have been after he met them. Also, the Challenge Cup rounds won't have been late 1962 but early 1962.

We played Wigan in the quarter final on 24th March 1962 and won 5-4. That was the date.

My memory must be playing tricks, Slugger. I must have just been in my third year. I certainly remember them coming to our school recruiting crowd extras.
I recall my elder sister watching them film outside the old Mecca dance hall where the Southgate entrance to the Ridings is now. If I remember correctly (that'll be a miracle), Richard Harris bought the club a full kit for all the team as a parting gift.

One thing for certain was that in some of the crowd scenes in "Sporting Life" many of the "spectators" were actually cardboard cutouts.
