| Every player is allowed a drop in form for a game, and no doubt MJ had a game he will wish to forget.
I expected that the knives would be out for him before the final whistle went.
To drop him after one bad game, particularly when he was not alone would be rubbish!

| When i watch the games i forget Grix is part of the squad, says a lot about the impact his prolonged absence has had.

| You lose games, no players go out to play badly. We did what we needed to do this season with Jowitt at full back for a large part of it.
I suppose in a perverse sort of way I benefit from the fact that I have supported the club for long enough to watch both the good and really bad teams. The current squad is one of the best we have put together for about 20 years.
We have players committing long term to the club. We run various teams and are looking to put a reserve team out next season something Leeds a so called big club are complaining about.
I do not think that losing to St Helens requires a forum meltdown by some.

I think there is a huge difference to the "meltdown" on here now and to the season when Kear finished his last spell in charge (as coach).
Back in those days, it was despair at just how bad things were.
Today, it's disappointment because we (the fans) know that had we played closer to our best, we would very likely have beaten Saints.
The 15 minutes in the second half, when we pulled back to 16 - 12 showed what we were capable of but, a couple of errors killed the momentum.
I haven't seen too many dummy spits or meltdown, just disappointment and considering this was a game against the LLS winners, it shows just how far we've come.
I'm proud to be a Trinity fan and the words from Andy Kelly about the promotion side, were quite moving.
Those guys gave our current side the opportunity to play in the top flight and the current squad are doing very nicely thank you.
I'm still dreaming of that trip to Wembley (to support Trinity) and I do feel that we should set our stall out to have a proper tilt at the cup next season.
I know that playing in SL will always be the primary target but, just imagine what a trip to the final would do for the club and the city.

I’ve been a member on here a long time, been reading these forums since 2004, though I don’t post much. The worst meltdown I’ve seen on here was the Hudds away under Tony Smith when we lost from 20-0 up (correct me if I’m wrong). The reaction was along the lines of we are relegated, the clubs bust etc etc
I don’t suppose a competitive loss at home vs the runaway league leaders is all that bad in perspective, is it...

Agree SP. In many of the years gone by our only concern when playing Saints would have been to keep the score down. Shows how fare we have come when we're disappointed that we didn't beat them.

for once this lost doesn't hurt maybe because the effort put in deserves credit on how the team has play all season, we might not finish 5th but it fells like at least we should of done if only for the games that was so close that we did lose

| I consider that by finishing this season of all seasons in the top 8 will prove to be greater than where, because the middle 8’s were to be avoided at all costs. I would rather watch us lose in the top eight than endure the nerve shredding games 4 current SL club supporters go through.
The suggestion is that they are to go with one up one down next season which will benefit us with the squad we have.

| Yeah, Saints played a great game, there's a reason they are where they are and it showed.
For us, well, it was the 3 in 7 minutes in the first half that took the game away, although you don't really see it at the time.
I think it did start with that crap end to the set that left Huby having to kick and the resulting procession down field.
There were a few unforced drops too that blew momentum but it was that roll down field that paved the way for the 0-16 by halftime.
Jowitt played ok but died a lot on the overlap when shipping it out to the edges, either Saints had him bang to rights all game or he doesn't have a plan B yet.
We had lots of possession close to their line but no time to execute, Saints were up too quick and everything was rushed which blunted our attack close in and fannied our end of sets up.
Chuck in a couple of spawney broken play scores in and that's the game well gone.
We can't match Saints for individual talent so we have to play the percentages, bang out the sets with good ends, not stone cold drop the ball and turn them around when they're on a roll before they've racked up daft points.
Its stating the obvious I know, and easier to say than do, but despite looking good enough in spells, we never took control for long enough to make it count.

| One game where he makes a couple of mistakes and you want him out? He was superb at Hull. As someone has pointed out, Grix cost us a potential Grand Final place...and you want him back in on the basis of one game?

| Grix didn't cost us a grand final place.
This isn't the first game Max has made a mistake. Let's not cannonise him just yet.
We are in a great position with fullbacks. Why does everyone look for the negative in that?
Same goes for the team. To go into a game against a Sts Helens team heading for league leaders shield and most likely grand final with a good chance of winning is pretty good... and something we haven't been able to say even in the Topliss and Skerrett days. When we beat them it was a big game and that was the best team we've had in my life time.
We are likely to end up 6th. That's a pretty good season for me. You don't change from MPG to top 4 in a season. You have to build and be patient in the 5-8 group sometimes.

Yet you criticise Grix ability on one game, he won us many games last season.

I agree my hopes this season were top 8 and new stadium sorted so we’re halfway there. Hopefully a system change next season will help us stabilise and grow, the 8 system creates uncertainty and finishing top 8 should create more positivity rather than just avoiding middle 8s, 1 Up 1 down would be good.

I made the initial post - it was an observation of Scott at that time in that particular game and not a criticism of him and how well he has played for us and was in response to the post that Max had cost us the game.....
He may have - but probably didn't, but if he did it was a "better" one to give away than the one last season v Saints in the Super 8's.
That was the point being made and not a case at having a pop at the player.

| I'm happy to have either, Grix or Jowitt at FB, they both have their strengths and weaknesses.
To suggest that one or the other shouldn't lace their boots for the Wakey team ever again or that one is hugely superior in every department to the other is quite frankly, ridiculous, but that's the currency we deal with here, the currency of extremes.
We're lucky to have 2 FB's of such good quality despite their faults.
