| Getting back on topic .... it was a decent run out for both teams, first half lacking our two main props the cas pack and an excellent kicking game from gale saw us pinned in our own half for about twenty-thirty minutes. They tired and our substitutes were better than theirs - but at the end of the day its always good to beat our local rivals even at fiddly winks
There were some real positives from me - thought grix was safe and great under high ball, caton brown showed some nice touches and is pushing for bjb wing slot, tiny arona was pick of forwards, but danny kirmond looks really fit and hungry, miller and williams got a first opportunity to play and get rid of some ring rust. Wood looked decent. When alls said and done its still preseason
Bit disappointed with first half, very happy with result

This is a discussion about the Cas friendly. I went to the game and through my own limited brain assessed what was going on during the game. That as a Wakefield supporter is mainly about my team but I am also watching the other team, as I'm just clever enough to do both.
My watching what Cas does in no way diminishes my loyalty or passion for Wakefield Trinity.
We are going to play them again this season and it's handy to know how they'll fair. I would go as far as to say if they are on Sky, playing another team I will watch and again in no way will that take anything away from me being a Wakefield Trinity supporter.
I wonder how you decided that Wigan, Sts, Warrington and Hull are better than Cas without being able to watch them? Is it only Cas I'm not allowed to comment on because I go far enough back that Leeds were always our bitter rivals and for that matter Fev when we played them on Boxing Day.
So in summary, get over yourself.'"
I don't need to get over mysellf thanks.
I suppose it a difference in the interpretation of being a fan.
I don't like reasonable because that's not what it's all about to me. I wouldn't pat Cas on the back if they had just won the CCup, Wimbledon and the FIFA World Cup and I prefer the Cas fans who feel the same way.
I don't hate people from Cas except when the issue is RL then I do and I think it's great and has saved the club.
When I started watching us in 1988 we had no special games as nobody really gave a stuff about us we had lost that much ground against our once great rivals. Even on the occasions we won it was always just a fluke and even our own fans barely got excited. However in the last 30 year it's changed. We annoy Leeds and we are getting more annoying by the year.
However Cas is now a real rivalry especially since 2006 and even if they try to pretend otherwise being ahead of us is their number one aim and ditto us.
If this were not the case we wouldn't of had the attendance for a friendly that Salford will struggle to get as an average. This doesn't happen out of mutual back slapping it happens through passion.
I'm happy to justify my stance - I'm Trinity all the way and have no interest in other teams or fans. When we win it's because we are great and when we lose we are still great.
I have no time for appeasers, defeatists, turncoats, moaners, bleeding hearts or liberals of any sort. I detest Cas they are the enemy and always will be. Long live the rivalry i say.
Finally I know what your thinking, what happens if it goes to far and someone gets hurt - go on you were thinking that. I really hope it doesn't and I don't think it will but you can't sanitise life totally and it's these kind of fierce rivalries that really give an otherwise dull competition some meaning.
So there you are I'm just an old fashioned fan - a bit like that Ripping Yarns guy but without the furniture smashing fetish.

Sorry but you are wrong!
Any Trinity fan of any reasonable standing knows that Cas are an inconvenience... but the true enemy... who shal be detested beyond all other... is Leeds!

Now this is a sweeping statement if I've heard one. Might be yours but pretty sure most clubs would rather try and win something than just be ahead of their cousins on the table.

I'd happily lose every game to Cas and win every game against everyone else. Beating them isn't the number 1 thing.

Not for me - I started watching in 2000 and Leeds are down in 3rd after Cas & Huddersfield.
I enjoy beating Leeds mainly due to the smug, arrogant mindset of their fans - always good to see them taken down a peg or 2.
But Cas are the main one for me, same area, similar ground/crowds - always incidents at the games between us - usually unpredictable results, the team I love to hate. Although oddly I want them to do ok, as long as it's worse than us!
Hudds I just straight up don't like. Maybe it's what they did to Sheffield, maybe it's the fact they are the first to come picking the bones of other clubs who get into difficulty. They are sugar daddy run, with poor support, historically have charged the earth to get into their giant, empty stadium.. Ugh I just don't like them at all.

Everything summed up perfectly for me here, maybe I would cut Leeds a bit of slack by them loaning us players the last few seasons when we were struggling.

| Cas used to "only" be a local derby.
That was until it appeared that either them or us would be sacrificed by SL and the fall out from this, particularly with regards to new grounds has upped the anti, to a level that has boiled over a couple of times over the past 6/7 years.
Leeds was always the club that Trinity fans loved to hate, primarily because ove a number of decades, they have always come along and taken our best players.
Some would argue that they put money into the Trinity coffers but, this generally had a habit of weakening our team.
Every time we started to improve, there were Leeds with their cheque book, taking our better players.
This hasn't happened in recent seasons, primarily because they have been doing rather well and we haven't exactly been blessed with a dearth of quality players.
Having said that, with Leeds in a slump, they may well come sniffing round some of our up and coming players, although, they may be wanting a coach at some point and most would expect them to be trying to lure Mr Powell.
Even though we dont like to admit it, Leeds are the biggest RL club on this side of the Pennines and its always great to beat them but, Castleford has become the stronger rivalry in the SL era and its 1 - 0 to us this season

I think that's an age thing as in how far you go back but hey I don't care who you pick as your enemy so long as you have one.
For me it's always Cas but tbh I think Mr Box and WMDC or Castlefordgrad Council has played a part in that - if they were in a different postcode then maybe not.
Also doesn't everyone hate Leeds?

You really don't get it do you - each to their own I suppose but I'd rather the passion tbh.

People like you and me know that Leeds have probably been our best friend in recent years, I think GH has bent over backwards on occasion.
I can't talk for the current Cas set up but the previous one went out of it's way to persecute ourselves on an almost daily basis.
It's alright Cas fans coming on all reasonable now because they are going through a little purple patch but it wasn't always that way. this sudden desire to capitulate pre-season and worship at the alter of Powell I don't get - you simply don't admire your enemy, do that and you're gone - this may only be RL but the same rules of life apply.
Any way back to your point sorry for rambling, I don't ever remember Cas ever and I mean ever doing us a favour - I remember them doing the dirty on us for a SL place in 1994-5. I do remember them picking over the carcus of our team in 1994-5 or what was left after all their previous annual raids. I do remember there relentless attempts to de-rail every one of our attempts to get a new stadium and they only reason they have stopped is because they have won. I remember them doing the same in the early 2000's. I remember their fans mocking us when Thornes fell through. I remember in 2006 when we put them down and the camera panned in on the guy with the hand scribed note saying "Wakefield scum" and that is the true face of Cas fans.
So yes I'm prepared to give a truly successful and magnanimous club like leeds a bit of slack.
MC says Steve Gill is a reasonable guy, I'd love to see how reasonable he was if the boot were on the other foot.
That all said it's just a game so it's fun being over serious about something that isn't really that serious (obviously it is serious to those who earn a living at it).
