Quote: Big lads mate "I know the game is do or die for most of the players, especially the fringe players with the talk of lively hoods if dropped to the championship but apparently it's not smooth sailing their also as a little bird told me that the Bulls players haven't been paid last months wages.'"
It's hard to know what the answer is.
There should be a means of promotion from the Championship into SL and nobody can argue that Leigh have earned their shot at the "big time".
However, the damage that is done to those clubs who over stretch themselves "chasing the dream" and to any club that gets relegated could be terminal.
IF the game is wanting to expand and the inclusion of Toulouse and Toronto suggest that it does, then, we should revert to some kind of franchise system which will at least bring stability to ALL clubs.
Ok, getting into the top flight may be more difficult but, at least nobody should overstretch themselves financially and if youth development was put somewhere near the top of criteria for being in SL, moving forward, this has to be good for the game.
We are faced with a strong possibility of Toulouse and Toronto pushing for a spot in SL over the next 2/3 years which will essentially relegate 2 of the heartland clubs and this issue needs thinking about and dealing with in advance of the 2 new clubs challenging for SL and not wait for a crisis to unfold.
Personally, I want KR to stay up (my Granddad played for them before WW2 came along) but I really fear for Salford if they go down and IF Koucash walks, they would be absolutely stuffed and nobody wants any club to go pop.
