The club needs a complete revamp from the very bottom all the way through to the SL squad. Brian Smith, by reputation, will not only arrest the slide but will also instigate systems that will set the club up for the future.

What he needs is an assistant coach who can learn from him in the same way Matty Elliott, Brian Noble, Ian Millward etc did during his time at Hull, Bradford, Illawarra etc.

He will have far far more pulling power on players down under than any of our previous coaches and will also know the right players to recruit.

I'm very happy with this appointment, time will tell though.

Whilst what you say is correct all those systems that need instigating and the better quality of staff and facilities required to make it happen take a lot of time and investment, something that isn't going to happen. As it stands his contract is until the end if the season, not sure how much difference he can make in little over 3 months. His role will be first team only for the short term, everything else will depends on whether he can keep us up. And that part is a tough ask with this lot.

Till the end of the season and then reviewed . .

Beyond the end of the season, the club needs sorting out.

Pleased with the appointment.
Hopefully we have reached a low point after today.
It's now about preserving our status in SL. A new coach is key to that. Not expecting miracles straightaway, but he should start us going in the right direction. I am certain we will be in a much better place, performance wise come the business end of the season.

Think MC and Smith have both played blinders.
MC needed to pull something out of the bag to steady the ship and get the lost supporters back, I think any other applicant wouldn't have done that, in his own words "a no brainer."
Brian Smith knows that we are a challenge, but to a good coach we're a realistic one, he's not likely to stop us finishing bottom but if he can get us competitive we should remain safe in the middle 8's.
He will make us more organised, he will get some belief back in the players and some structure back in the play. That will have a positive effect on fitness. Less time defending due to clueless play, errors, silly penalties etc.
Less time defending means less pressure on points conceded and more time attacking.
It's a win win for me.

We need an organiser and motivator who is not part of the existing set up. I believe he is plus I suppose he has unfinished business in Rugby League. He may not be in charge Sunday but I hope he has some input.

We thought the 80 point nilling at Warrington was the low point of the season but then we went and threw away a 22-0 lead against a championship team in the Challenge Cup. Today was merely another low point in a long line of low points this season. If we have any more low points we'll struggle to keep count.

Whilst I was very much in a Kear is my 1st choice camp I think MC has pulled a blinder here. In over 30 years following the club I don't remember us ever being associated with such a high caliber and experienced coach as Brian Smith.

He may be early 60s but Wayne Bennett is no spring chicken and still is very influential to players he commands.

I think the great thing about Smith coming is what he can teach Carter. He can tell him how a professional NRL club is set up and what is needed in the background. Whilst Carter says we have no money and I accept that, if Smith can convince him of the benefits then it might be the place for future money to be directed.

We've hired one of the best and it is clearly a massive statement of intent. I'm not sure this could be the turnaround moment but if Smith stays for 2 and a half years we will have a much better infrastructure than ever before.

Well done MC and CB this is a world class appointment. Shame our team is far from SL class, never mind world class at the moment.
