Wow. My history is no where near as good as it should be. Cheers for that merry Chrimbo.

Not taking anything away from the greats of the past, but Shane Tronc was one of the classiest players of the modern era - if we could have held on to him, he would have been one of the best props in SL and by now, would either be at Wigan, or back in the NRL.

It can be difficult to compare present day players with those from the unlimited tackles era.The modern game is completely different ,players such as Neil Fox and Alan Skene would do well but many of the forwards would be worn out after ten minutes of running from one end of the field to the other.

Why would they be worn out?
They would be if they had the same fitness training and conditioning as in the 50's , 60's .
But the likes of Rocky Turner ,Vince Karalius, Eric Prescott, Mal Reilly etc etc benefiting from today's methods would be sensational.
Class is class!

I agree 100%. You can make someone fitter by hard work but you can't train someone to have class. In today's RL there is no one with class in this country only average players who are fit through various dubious methods.

I agree although I only saw him play once against Leeds he was by far the best forward on the field and had a fantastic off load game. Shame he went back to Aus then had to retire through injury within 6 months.

Yep I gave him a mention earlier. He was an awesome Prop in the short time he was with us, really stood out. Took less than a year and he was back in the NRL at the Broncos, a real shame we didn't get to see more than the half season or so he was with us and an even bigger shame was how his career ended.

Yes that's what was said at the time, his Wife didn't settle here or something but there was probably more to do with it than just that, such as the Brisbane Broncos wanting to sign him.

I understood that the club didn't deliver on what they'd promised him, but there's no point raking over all that again.

Either way, he was excellent for the short time he was with us and it's sad to see how his career ended.

Yes that's what I remember hearing and it's what I was hinting at.
