My guess If Owen has signed hes fullback cover and wing. The replacement could be Curtis Naughton ex bulls lad who went to oz but coming back appatently. Mathers going to bulls is probably not correct as they have signed mullaney as their fullback. Would like Kear though.

Sorry to hear Mathers is leaving. He undoubtedly loved it here and his passion shone through.

I think he is a much better full back than Sammut and feel our defence is better organised with him at FB.

Yes he's had a fair few brain farts and his tackling is questionable. However he proved effective going forward, linked well and had good pace. There is no doubt he knows how to score a try.

This season we had Sammut covering FB, last year Lee Smith. I think on each occasion we missed Mathers.

I'm not sure on the plan for the future. I certainly don't think Eden would be an improvement. I would be fearful everytime he is involved in the game.

We have options in the current squad with Jowitt (not made his debut yet has he?), Sammut and Owen (who I don't think has played FB for us yet) and next year Hall (a possible option).

He wants to stay, the coach wants him to stay but the board don't have the money......answer Mathers accept a smaller contract and WTW clear some financial space in the squad. Save money now by sending the loans back.

I can't see a full back available willing to go to WTW who could do a better job than Mathers.

Aaron Murphy would be good but think he's now getting more game time at Hudds.

Good luck to Richie Mathers who (despite the critics) has been one of our best attacking full backs over the last decade. He's still got a couple of years in him playing at Super League level IMHO

It'll be interesting to see who will be wearing the number 1 jersey next year....

Well I'm reliably informed by most of the experts on here that Sammut is a top FB so shall we start there.

When I've seen Jowitt play he's less accident prone when under and not under pressure than Mathers.

I'm in the happy position that I've never rated Mathers and have said so many times. Ill grant you that every year he gives you a run of good games but for me personally it's not enough, you may feel differently.

Is it all about money

Think Sammut is more of a 6 than anything and he sees himself as a stand off also. Who else will play 6 next year? Sykes isn't being retained.

I don't especially rate Mathers but he was a better FB than a winger and Sammut is a better Stand off than a FB.

Sammut not for me at fullback as for Jowitt the lad can go far but needs to be brought on steady not thrown in at the deep end now being an ideal time to start that as we wont make the 8 so give him a bit of game time now but seeing him he has still a bit to go to make that leap.Mathers for me is like Spreak was at lufc he can pull something good off then drop just as big a clanger the next overall hes done a decent job though.

Haven't been on for a while but I'm feeling sick with all the praise heaped on my favorite subject, best attacking fullback we've had in super league how can you say that , if you said slowest fullback id have agreed, best celebrated of a try what an accolade , never misses a game , how could he he never puts his body on the line see how he gets on next season from what I hear he's off down south if he was any good teams up here would want him I'm certain that won't happen ,he's kidded a lot on here I've said the mans a show man but he can't fool me know I'm gonna get slated but I'm interested to hear veiwspointing out where my opinions are wrong
