The all-round gashness of Owen and the pedestrian nature of Murphy's game just goes to highlight Mathers' value; in the modern game, the best fb's are playing as another pivot and there are few that do that better than Mathers. So much so that in present form, he'd probably do better at SO than Sykes, bar the kicking, and he's even failing at that.

I cannot believe people on here are claiming murphy is not better than mathers. He's his superior in every aspect of FB play EVERY!

Give over murphy made a 70 meter break against us and out paced most of our cover only to run out of options in the end. Pedestrian my bum, he may have an awkward style but he makes more yards than mathers ever will.

I'm happy that we've got a full-back that adds to our attack so effectively, and whilst less than impressed with his tackling it's up to the rest of the team to minimise the number of times he's left one-on-one.
